its not the fact that the plants are green. Its the balance of colors in relation to the objects in the photo and composition. I like how in the first photo the plant enters from the left and how the background bokeh effect mingles with the subject in the foreground. I think the only drawback to his photo is not his skills as a photographer, but limited but the lens itself. You can see the bokeh highlights are shaped pentagonal as opposed to circular which is attributed to a 5 blade lens. Nothing to do with the photographers skill however.

the boat onealso has nice shallow depth of field. Its the type of photo you'd look at for a while to see what its about, very interesting.

and since the photos arent cropped (or at least doesnt seem to be), it just further demonstrates his knowledge good composition, he gets it right the first time. Not that its bad to crop, but it takes more skill to compose a shot without the need of cropping.

I have a 28-135. its the one that came with my camera. I have 3 lenses and its the one I use the most simply because it has very versatile focal lengths. I use it for most of my photos at events. The color and sharpness is good, but low light performance is not so good. I believe its f3.5 or something. and if you zoom it narrows even more. What I find myself having to do with increase the iso to 640 maybe 800 but then thats noisy territory and force it to take shots at 1/25th to 1/30th of a sec. I say better underexposed than over, You can still bring out details in shadows but not so much with blown out whites in raw files.

since the aperture in this lens is so narrow, itll be more difficult to get shallow dof than a lens with an f stop below 2.. Its a nice walk around lens though. Keep in mind that on a cropped sensor 28mm isnt really wide even though its a wide focal length. so you may need to revert back to your 18mm for those perspective shots.

I actually want to replace it with the 24-70 2.8L.

So would you say that a 24-70mm is better that the 28-135mm?

And what exactly is a cropped sensor? is it worse than my 18-55mm, I'm still learning all these camera terms and techniques to improve my shooting so I want the optimal performance I can get.

My stock lense is ok if I'm shooting large objects like my car, buildings, people or what have you. But for realy close macro shots or DOF, I fill so limited it's frustrating that I can't focus as much as I would like.
