at least that camera has a better lens than the point/shoots and allows for some manual adjustments but its no replacement for a real SLR just playing! the second pic looks a bit blurry... weak lens FTL! i like the last 2.. ive been playing around with night shots cause i seem to be quite weak with the night shots...

Yeah, the camera is really nice for what it is. I don't shoot in anything but manual modes and it is more compact then a dslr (well, for the lenses I would need) so it's nice for what I use it for. My next cam will be a dslr though, for sure.

The second pic is a bit blurry, yes... I just enjoyed the shot so I thought I would post it anyway. The reason for the blurriness is simply the fact I was rushing. We had to catch a show and I basically dialed in settings and went for it. One of the few blurry ones I had gotten honestly. The image stabilizer built into the cam is great, even at 20x zoom.

learn the skills and concepts on a mini-slr (what i call your type of camera) and the transition to a DSLR will be easy. you know the composition concepts, exposure concepts, etc so all you need to do is learn how to change lenses without getting dust in the body!

hmm.. i just realized mini-slr isnt really an accurate name.. since it doesnt have the reflex mirror its not a SLR? and i dont like the name super-zoom... hmmm who wants to come up with a better name?

film MAKES you think before you shoot rather than just snapping a shot...

I suppose, but I dont know any pro photographer that will take just one shot at a time. all the ones I know snap every chance they get, Id say for me every 5 photos Ill nail 1 keeper. It does take more skill to take a good shot once. But rarely will I see anyone do that unless they are forced to, its just smarter to take multiple shots of the same photo and picking out the best one. Any serious photographer will already know what f stop/iso/shutter speed to use for a given occasion and while snapping composing the photo is second nature and they take the shot without giving a second thought. I dont even like using manual (but I do know how and do use it) Id rather use av and tv, simply because a lot of the time im at areas with erratic variables when it comes to lighting (stage lighting) and I simply dont have the time to muss and fuss the settings every 2 pictures. In this case I'd be losing opportunities.

I know there are image benefits that can be had with film, but, for what I use it for, im not from the old school way of thinking. IMO the convenience of digital versus film for my uses outweigh the image benefits of film.

It matters on what type of photography. Which imo digital is very convenient. Its nice to have to skill to do well with film cameras, but how often do you use film over digital, don?
