the focused image however isn't in a single third, however. Darn. I wasn't even planning to make the photo in 3rds I just took a snap, I see everything like that oh well.

in regards to the highlights being blown out, they're present in the original raw file. I stripped the color info and increased the exposure and sharpness, and went back with curves to make the lights and dark extreme purposely.

I see where you're coming from about the branch distraction.
I like there though It adds depth and makes it more interesting imo.
i think it'd add to the texture if those highlights weren't blown out...

if you follow the lines (which are on the thirds) it guides your eye to whats in focus

took some picture while i was on an errand in downtown.. man those security guards sure are quick to scare you away with the "oh you cant take pictures of buildings sir.. you know 9/11"

next time your down there, try using one building to frame the reflection of another building

1st one, color and exposure are good, but the ***** looking structure seems out of place

both i think would look better if they were zoomed out...look into a polarizing filter too

roger that.. i was thinking the same thing about that sculpture..

i was zoomed out all the way on both tho.. i just got a polarizer but i forgot to put it in my bag this morning.. ill try to do the building reflection next time

any other critiques guys?

the prerequiste self portrait with camera in had with my dads oooooollllllddddd 35mm f/2 lens that works with the d60.. ill learn to focus with it soon..

how did people survive doing everything manually?

i use only Manual also, unles i'm doin exposure braketing or exposure mode, other than that mostly manual.


i did use Program mode in NYC though for those spur of the moment type pics where u dont really have a lot of set up time

well ive just gotten into manual focus, been tryin it out a lot lately, but i mostly use full manual mode iwth AF for the most part
