yah i meant manual as in working the lens.. changing the focus and the f/stops and all that jazz.. not manual mode.. i havent gotten out of it since i bought the camera.. i refuse to use the program modes..

 

well yeah thats what manual mode is. you set everything:

ISO, exposure, f stop, shutter speed, white balance, and just switch it from AF to MF and you can manual focus

 

do you guys find it that it makes you slow down and try to compose your shots more rather than just snapping away?

the manual focusing? well i dont just snap away while im shooting.. but it did take longer.. moving just a little bit would make me have to refocus the shot..


i like doing everything except for the focusing

 

what i'm trying to get as is, do you slow down and think about your composition more or has that not changed?

coming from film and a fully manual camera, i was forced to take things slow and am just looking to see if recommending that would help people or if it doesn't help people with composition at all

 

true that, i usually only use manual focus shooting macro or if im doin somethin crazy like shootin at a zoo through a cage

yah i think that would help a lot.. it does make you think the pictures out a lot more.. for some reason when you say composition to me that means how the picture looks.. i.e. rule of thirds and what not.. not exposure and focus and shutter time and aperture.. but yes manual mode improves you photography i think..

 

I never ever take mine off of manual unless I let my girlfriend use it and I forget to set it back which is rare.

 

yah i tell everyone else to use auto.. not knowledgeable enough to use manual.. haha then they roll their eyes at me..

 

im not going to lie i use the program mode. sometimes i use the manual modes but its too stressful for those lightning reaction shots (GTR passes by, bird flies into a window, etc etc)

i wish i could do manual focusing too.. damn my poor eyesight! but i think my 17-85 is pretty good at the AF so ill leave it on auto. lazy photography is my style. let the camera do the exposure and lets me think about the composure

 

i can dig it.. i actually havent tried to use the other modes.. maybe itll help me on those night shots i always have trouble with..

 

you dont a lot of noise at that iso?

I get substantial noise if I up to 800.

I got the rest from that one day finally. Its a pic of me. The person who took it didnt know how to use my camera so I had to talk to her on how to aim it and such.
oh well.

 

I don't feel like manual slows me down. It's what I'm used to. There are uses for Av and Tv for sports and panning and what not, but nothing you couldn't do in M.

 

i think it definitely does for me. but i'm used to it and you get a better picture out of ot

 

manual focus slows me down, "M" mode doesnt, unless im in an area with inconsistant lighting, and Im using a zoom lens that changes aperture automatically everytime I change the focal length.

If im in an area where like outside I use manual mode and autofocus.

 

it really depends on what kind of lighting is used...

red and purple produce a lot more noise as opposed to other colors
