Can't wait to see the images u create with it.

what are you doing with a 40d and just using program ae mode and shooting in jpeg????!!?
it's wasted potential.
at least av mode is a step in the right direction

I agree and have been saying the same thing for years about owning the gear I do and not having the full knowledge of how to take advantage of it. Hell, I don't know jack about real photography if we want to take the truth that far. What else can I say?

I use TV when Im in a situation that has lighting that changes dramatically often and I need to take shots quick indoors. I don't use av because its too unreliable I tend to miss more shots in av because the sensors get tricked sometimes under certain lighting circumstances and the shutter speed drops too low for indoor shots.
most of the time I use manual, I just memorize the positions of the iso, aperture and shutter controls and I change the settings on the fly without ever looking away from the viewfinder. The light meter helps me, but most of the time I just know what settings to use on the camera within various lighting conditions. It does help that Im often forced to shoot in low light almost all the time when I first started learning, which is kind of like boot camp for photography. Anyone can take a good pic outdoors with a slow lens, it takes experience to shoot good pics indoors with a slow lens. Even more difficult to take pics indoors with a slow lens and non-constant aperture telephoto and no flash (which is how I first started) hah.
this is why I think its good to learn a camera in low level lighting situations. I learned superfast on how to use the camera and its limits that way.
you start learning how to trick the camera into taking photos and forcing it to take shots that it normally wouldnt do in any other setting aside from manual mode. And it also forces your to be precise when pressing the shutter and composing the shot otherwise you end up with motion blur.
Once you learn this, it only gets easier from there on. shooting outdoors and constant aperture lenses hah.
right now Im actually trying to learn and hope to master 3 point flash and artificial lighting.
I am actually gonna start learning to use RAW. I've shot in raw but never edited any of the files cause I always use the large jpeg. I finally got some photo editing software so I just gotta figure out how to get to and convert the raw files through it.
Can't wait to have more control and see the difference in image quality.

I always shoot in RAW, just started to shoot in RAW+B (that way I can have the RAW for my Mac and JPEG for Windows). I don't do any editing, but if I start, I have all my old pictures that I can tinker with. Plus, iPhoto automatically changes photos from RAW to HighJPEG's when you pull them from iPhoto to the desktop.
