but right now, due to the setback i'm having with the primes and d60, i would say my frustration has made it even between a canon and nikon

i've never even looked at a nikon b/c of how small the bodies are and the fact u have to buy lenses with AF instead of every body just having them.

the only reason why d40 and d60 dont AF with that 50mm is cuz it doesnt have a built in motor with the body, hence why the body is small. any other body does AF with 50mm.

wtf do they do to the cameras and lenses to make them come apart. My cameras get treated like eggs ha ha I am VERY careful not to bump them and all that.

exactly due to the current gripe... you can only AF with an AF-S lens. which means don't waste your time trying to score a good deal on a quality older lens. Nikon is smart though. The D40 is a great camera to learn on with kit glass. Learn to understand the functions and how to control your photos with your first DSLR. Then, upgrade when the time comes. For me, a higher model would have been too overwhelming to start with as i knew nothing. The D40 was perfect for learning. But the time has come for an upgrade. I just wish the larger cameras could fit into the D40 body as i DO NOT want to get any bigger in body size. but... oh well. nothing i can do.

3rd time's a charm. but i tell you this... it was NOT for the movie mode. pee on movie mode. i've seen them and it sucks. i already have a camcorder for movies. What sold me on the D90 is the sensor and usability. Ken Rockwell said it best how it comes preset with "better" settings as the default. Not to mention the picture clarity is pretty much right on par with the D3 and D300. The D90 is truly a remarkable piece of work.

Now just searching for a good deal on a body. i also DO NOT want the crappy kit 18-105 lens that it comes with. looking at a used body right now with 40 actuations for $700. we'll see how it goes. if not, i'm waiting for the next good deal to pop up.
