exactly due to the current gripe... you can only AF with an AF-S lens. which means don't waste your time trying to score a good deal on a quality older lens. Nikon is smart though. The D40 is a great camera to learn on with kit glass. Learn to understand the functions and how to control your photos with your first DSLR. Then, upgrade when the time comes. For me, a higher model would have been too overwhelming to start with as i knew nothing. The D40 was perfect for learning. But the time has come for an upgrade. I just wish the larger cameras could fit into the D40 body as i DO NOT want to get any bigger in body size. but... oh well. nothing i can do.
same reason why i went with the XSi, i wanted bigger but didnt want to go with a huge body. the D90 was to pricey for my taste so i jumped to Canon and loving every minute.

i guess i just look at the D90 as an excellent camera to actually keep for awhile. i used the D40 for almost a year and a half. the d90, with near limitless lens choices, i see as my gear for quite some time. glad you're liking the canon though. my mother-inlaw has an xsi that i play with when we have get togethers at her house. it is a nice camera.

snow: that is one cheap d90 with only 40 actuation. the kit lens is either you love it or you hate it. as for me, it does the job. i wasnt really going for the d90 just cuz of the movie mode too... i love it cuz of the same reason as you have stated, the sensor. its up there with the pro dslr.

Battery grip = best add-on ever made. 2 full weeks, 600 shots and the battery icon just dropped to 2/3. And it wasn't even fully charged before I left.

Oh and the SB-600 Nikon flash kicks ___. I'm so glad I spent the extra money for the 600 and didn't get the 400.

Joe, I think I like the 2nd photo better but I'll have to compare them when I get home on my MAC. I am on my blackberry right now.

Is the guy on a motorcycle in the first photo? Reminds me of Top Gun. Ha ha

Haha. Yeah, he's on his bike. I saw him sitting there and I asked if I could snap a few shots of him.

I agree with you - I do like the second one better. The sky in the first just doesn't seem right to me.. What do you think about the composition of it though?

And I know the leveling is off a tad bit in the second photo, but I don't have any editing software other than Canon's..

I like the composition. love how the dock takes ur eye into the horizon but I just wish there was the burst of sun in there. Kinda like what u did in the 2nd photo. Just to spice it up a little.

See how the sun adds some flare to the photos? Also adds a little more color and contrast.

Still good shots tho, Joe.

Nice shots Nastos. I wish I had something in Memphis to take photos of. No beach, pier, landscape, etc etc.

I wanna go to the beach & take sunset shots! Perhaps I'll go tomorrow if it isn't too cold. It's supposed to be in the 70s till Wednesday AT LEAST.
