haha I noticed that at the beginning of the thread there was a strong opinion against editing and photoshopping photos by a majority of posters, now I see everyone editing their photos. thought that was funny.
anyhow I suppose it was with good intentions to post non edited photos. But from all sincerity from what Ive seen every pro photographer edits and post processes photos. IMO you have to PP your work to keep up and stand out from the many other photos out there, you can only get so far with straight jpeg, but the ones that makes you stand out are the ones that are processed.

but thats just my opinion, take it with a grain of salt.
Sorry non standard crops are just a pet peeve of mine.
You're actually right, I am a terrible photographer and the shot was taken with the car right in the middle of the screen, so I had to crop it to where it's at.
But thanks though, I will keep all of the information i've gathered here in my head when taking new pics.

the purple flowers are cut off on the left hand side, which kind of bothers me...

I dont think its a terrible photo at all, you sky isn't blown out and has color so you obviously did something right.
if you aren't being sarcastic then heres something you may want to keep in mind.
this is what I usually tell someone that asks me about composition.
think of your viewfinder as a blank canvas, as the photographer you are the painter of sorts. Its up to you to place objects in the view finder aka canvas in a well balanced and composed manner so the end result is the vision you had in mind before creating the painting. Your paint brush is your focal length and your legs to get the right angles

so its very important to pay attention to everything in the viewfinder, especially stuff in the background. You dont want trees growing out of peoples heads or branches decapitating your subject. This I see people do all the time, which is the basic basic fundamentals of composition.
