best tip hands down is to read the manual from front to back. Seriously something EVERY photographer should do. The manual will actually clue u into the basics of photography.

I just purchased some goodies too....D90 kit and Nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom. This should keep me satisfied for a while till I find more goodies to buy. Company I bought it from through in some extra SDHC cards, 5 year warranty, and 1 day shipping for free since I've bought from them before and also took some cash off as well. Always help to call and order since they give goodies out. And yes, they are a verified Nikon dealer and its not gray market....lol. Should arrive soon.
That's awesome. B&H should know me by first name by now.
Just ordered the 580ex II with a rechargeable battery pack. Should be here thursday, so be prepared for photos soon. ha ha WHOLE new world of photography coming my way.

Remember the lower the shutter number (say 5.6) the more in focus your subect will be and the more blurred the background will be. Better for portraits or when you only want the subject to be the focus of the picture.
Use a higher number (say 22) to have everything from subject to background in focus....good for things like scenery etc.
Also, go spend $30 on the canon rebel xsi dvd TONS OF GREAT INFO ON THERE!
Just play around with it and read. Here is a quick link that helped me get started

yeah the best thing to do is read ur manual from cover to cover, this will allow u to get more familiar with ur camera gear too. Which is a HUGE help.
Then just practice and pay attention to the results.
