True. I'll be heading to Egypt shortly for my next duty station. I'd like to get it while I'm there so I can take great shots of the pyramids and Sphinx and what not.

D700 or D300?

Also, is there a pic hosting site on the net that supports NEF(RAW) photos, or am I gonna have to convert them or shoot in JPEG?

shoot in RAW and then convert to JPEG then upload to site. I am swapping over to FLICKR myself. For posting on forums, photobucket is faster, but for quality FLICKR is better by far.

Cool. Now I just gotta get PS or something and learn to use it Lol

I have noticed most people on here using Flicker. Guess I'll have to check it out.

If you can afford it, get the D700. But the D300 is plenty of camera unless you want to go professional. It will be my next body.

I don't want to go pro. Don't have the time or the money for all that. But I'd like a nice camera that I can do some really good amatuer stuff with.

Money wouldn't be the issue. I'll be getting tax free pay and all the hostile pay extras while I'm in Egypt :-)

I would suggest just doing some research on the D700 and full frame, as well as the FX series of lenses. But imo, for amateur photography, it would be unnecessary.

Pic from one of the events I attended today:

Yeah. I research EVERYTHING before I buy it. Lol That's why I'm in the air about the D700 or the D300...I've noticed most of the Nikkor lenses are DX format. Wouldn't work so good on an FX body.

I shoot pretty much anything really. I'm looking at reviews on the canon xsi. Which is compared to the nikon d80 which is the one what I was looking at.

yeah the xsi takes great photos. Not sure on how fast it shoots as far as FPS but unless ur shooting sports or motorsports u don't need fast.

Canon just seems to feel better in my hands and controls seem better. Nikon has a lot of stuff that u have to go into the menu to change that on a Canon has it's own button that is easy to get to.

And need I remind u that ALL bodies have AF and the one biggest reason...............L LENSES!!!!!!!

Zach, nice shot. Definitely getting better and fast too.

i bought the D80 body when i had the D40. the D80 was too complicated imo. i sold the D80, then later my D40 kit and got the XSi, still loving the Canon family!

Ok, XSi has been awesome the past 3 days I have had it. BUT, there was some odd spec on the 18-55 lens that I could not get off and I could not figure out if it was even on the outside. Went to B&H in nyc and they replaced my XSi, lol. Pretty awesome. I have had two XSi's in the matter of three days, lol.

Here's some of my stuff from Iraq. All of these are shot in the AUTO setting. I wasn't messing around with manual at all yet. I am now though. Once I get some decent pics I'll post some new stuff.
