shutters are prone to failure anywhere from roughly 50k-100k
when it does you send it in to get repaired for $400 haha
this is ONE of the many reasons why photographers always carry a spare body. You don't want to be at an event and have a shutter fail on you half way through.
on a side note 100k is a lot of photos.
if your keeper rate is less then 20 percent, you may want to think a bit more next time you press the shutter. The only time I hit over 1k per event is at a wedding. my average is about 500 photos tops at a normal event like an auto show.
