Sounds like a pretty solid plan. Good luck with all of that.

So. Recently, the only living thing that lets me take its picture is fungus. So here's a lot of it.

Nice fungus. Toadstool would be proud. I am completely healed and can't wait to get back out with my macro gear again. Alas, another two weeks at the least I have to wait until I can go shooting.

Healed from what? Did I miss something?

I havent been able to sit without pain for the last two and half years. Haven't been able to sit for more than 30 mins at a time without pain for the past 17 years. I had a pilonidal cyst removed from my tailbone area on November 19th. I was on bed rest for three days. Couldn't lift anything for the first 3 weeks. Took 8.5 weeks to 100% heal up. I got my work release two weeks ago. I was put on short term disability. So, that's why I haven't done any shooting beyond setting my cameras up in the backyard.

I'm jealous. I'd love to be headed for to that island even for just a week.

Pretty psyched for the trip. One downside is that I have to sell my car because tuition and other expenses are due long before my scholarships get disbursed. I can live without it, though.

That's awesome! Studying abroad is something I really want to do before it's too late. Graduation will be here before I know it.

My tower and internal hard drives ( both of them) took a complete dump. More than likely due to not enough venting..

Rebuilding with an ssd for the os and cs4/lightroom4 only, with 4 harddrives and a mirrored tb external(and 5 more fans, which may involve some dremeling).....this is getting old..

Ouch. I just bought another 1TB external today to backup all of my photos for fear of my main external getting worn out.

That really does suck. If I were to start shooting a bunch of events and stuff I'd be more inclined to back up my pictures more often and on something more secure than the 1TB external hd I have. At this point, I'm just uploading the shots i value the most to flickr to preserve them.

I got a great deal on a 2TB HD a while back and back up on that. I also have my 500MB travel one for the most recent shoots I do so I can keep nothing on my computer.

And that's why my PC has six fans (three are 200mm). During Black Friday (and the following weekend) I picked up three internal 3TB drives for $89. Damn good deal. It is almost time for me to pick up a 2nd desktop 3TB as the one I have now has less than 1TB of free space left... These time lapses take up a lot of space.

yeah, my new setup will have a bit of liquid cooling (thanks to a newegg sale) and an ungodly amount of intake/exhaust fans, as well as a fan for JUST the hard drives.

Overkill? Maybe...but I'd rather spend $30 on fans that might keep my hd's from dying than...well...what just happened happening again, haha

On a plus side, I finally have a reason to upgrade to windows 8!

More fungus..

By the way. Even in the winter when everything is brown and boring, the biodiversity in the woods around here is pretty amazing. Just have to look for it.

Random from a shoot I did last week. Just wanted to see how far up the ISO range I could go before I saw noise. Pretty negligible at 800.

Wow. Never would have thought that was taken at 800.
Overall, are you pretty pleased with the sharpness of the D700?
I'm selling my 5100 and DX lenses to a local and I had planned on buying a d600 before my trip, but there's a D700 w/ the Nikon grip for sale on CL for $1250. Estimated 35-40k actuations. Might save some cash and pick it up instead.
