Default Trouble with my D70

So I've had my Nikon D70 for at least four years now. All of a sudden it seems to be acting up. When I try and take a picture the shutter will stay open. I have to press the button again to close the shutter. During this process no picture will be taken. I went ahead and made sure that the camera was not on the cleaning mode where the mirror stays up so you can clean the sensor. I have updated the firmware and it still seems to be having the problem. Not sure what is up wanted to ask before I take it to someone to have it looked at.

Thanks.

Does it in every mode.

Not sure on the amount of shutter actuations that on the camera. Maybe around 2,000 don't use it that much.

Oh well it's practically new then. Although that does seem really low for 4 years of ownership. If it was a high number I was going to suggest that the shutter needed replacing. You may just want to send it to Nikon.

Is there a way to check on the camera how many shutter actuations it has had?

When you say shutter actuations you are talking about how many times the shutter has been opened and closed, correct?

Take a picture, upload it to Flickr, search EXIF data for "Shutter Count."

Yeah it's the number of times you've pressed the shutter button.

Will Do. Probably will just take it to the local camera store.

I have also noticed that the camera sometimes has a hard time reading the compact flash memory card. Camera says FOR and it can't read the card. Then it wants to format the card even though there are pictures on it.

Thanks for the help.

If it says FOR, then it's trying to format the card, not trying to read it.

It displays FOR when I put the card in instead of displaying how pictures are left. This is an on and off occurrence.

Weird. Whenever I try to quick format my card (hold down the two format buttons), it says --FOR-- on the top LCD, but it never actually does anything. I have to manually format it from the menus.
