Default Buying & Installing Neon Lights

Hey guys I would really like to purchase some neon LED lights for underneath my car and some LED lights to put inside of each one of my air conditioning vents and inside of my car door electronics panels.

Ultimate electronics told me they would re-wire some 12 volt neon lights that plug into a cigarette lighter into a switch box for me but it was going to be $40 bucks for installation a light before I started getting into the switch box . Any of you guys ever done this yourself ? I'd like to spend the installation money on more lights and just do this myself but I don't know what I need to wire the things to. With my luck I'd wire it wrong and blow the car up.

Thanks in advanced.

You need to talk to Randode about installing some cold cathods for you. they are similar to Neons but he has hooked a bunch of people up on here with them. Plus he will be much cheaper than Ultamate electronics.....installation of 40 bucks a light?? plus price of lights?? if you had 4 lights like i've got (cold cathods by the way) 40 times 4 = $160 bones just for install. that is if I am understanding the installation price correct. I'm sure randy could give you a price much cheaper for lights and installation and you'd save some money.

e-mail Randode... randode@randode.com

Randy is da man when it comes to lighting up the inside of a car. Like Chris said it will be alot less money and you will be much more happier with the outcome.

Okay I ask randy. Thanks, I didnt think $40 bucks installation was bad until you started adding up the cost of more than one light. Thanks for the input.

BTW: What are cold cathods lights?

I installed mine myself. It is actually VERY easy to do on the tC. The back has two perfect little pieces that come off to drill the tube holder into which holds the back, the two side tubes fit perfectly into a little cubby type thing that is directly on the under side of either side (lay on your back to check it out), and the front is the only one that is really difficult. I took my dremel and dremeled out a piece of the splash guard in the front that will fit the tube in their perfectly so nothing can get passed it. I just used some weather proof zip ties to hold the front one to the splash guard and all I had left to do was wire the wires through the groments on the underside of the car. I will try to find the post for you either later tonight or tomorrow if you wanna see how its done. Me and another guy on here made a write up with pictures a while back when we both installed them (seperate occasions and places).

If you decide not to do it yourself though - Randy is definitly the guy to go to.

LEDs are not as bright as neons, but are MUCH MUCH more resistant and will last longer. LEDs last up to like 70,000 hours or something. The tubes are silicon and not glass so they are very durable and can take a beating. The LED kits you will also have a controller usually which can do patterns, go to music, and if you get a multicolor system, change colors.

Alright, that's what I'll go with then. Where did you guys buy them at? autozone? Most of the ones I've found plug into the cigarette lighter. You guys just re-wire those?

Yea I got mine from ebay too. Different seller, but i have had them on for about 5 months without a problem. Here is a link to the thread that basically explains how to install them:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...=asc&&start=25

That should link you to the second page. Ignore the title of the topic about the fog lights - Limey and I were helping eachother out with the underbodys and the fog lights through that thread. My pictures and a somewhat decent tutorial is in there.
