JDRF and Camelback Toyota/Scion Partner up
To make a long story short, a little over a month ago I went to the GM of Camelback Toyota/Scion and pitched the ideas and plan for our event along with the Walk for the Cure event at Tempe Town lake. Camelback Toyota/Scion has been generous enough not only to allow such a great event to be put on Nov. 17th, but they will also be making a
$5,000 donation to the JDRF "Walk for the Cure" Event benefitting Brent's family.
Yep thats right. Camelback Toyota/Scion has joined the "Walk for the Cure" event on Nov. 3rd. I hadnt announced this earlier for the simple reason I wanted to wait til after the Official Kick Off Luncheon for the JDRF "Walk for the Cure" which was yesterday. So now I can let the cat out of the bag sort of speak.
You might ask what can you do to help, particpate or giveback. That's easy there are two ways
1. Sign up with Brent aka Dudehit and his family to join the "Walk for the Cure" Nov. 3rd at Tempe Towne Lake. BTW, this is the largest single diabetes fundraiser in AZ every year as well as the largest JDRF "Walk for the Cure" in the world with expected 25,000 people this year.

2. Get signed up for the Poker Run/Charity Event Nov. 17th. and attend.

To give you all a better idea of why we walk and why we ask for people to walk with us, please watch this, put together by a mom in Illinois who has THREE kids with Type 1 diabetes.
A Day in the Life
If you want to join us, please visit Brent's walk page and sign up (then we have a good count for team t-shirts, too). Whether or not you want to round up pledges is entirely up to you.
Yesterday Chad joined me and 800 other people at the kickoff lunch; just before that, I heard a research update from the guy who is in charge of a huge, multi-million-dollar JDRF research project called the Artificial Pancreas project. It's a GIGANTIC step towards a cure, and according to him, it is literally RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER. It gives parents like us, and the one in the video, hope that things can and will change in time to change our kids' futures.
<stepping off soapbox now>
We are very grateful for the support of our friends, family, and the entire Scion community. (Honestly, you all are much more supportive than some family members are... ) THANK YOU!!!!

The walk is absolutely free. (Plus you get lots of goodies when you cross the finish line). It's up to each individual walker as to whether or not they choose to raise pledges; if you raise $100 in pledges you get a Walk t-shirt that day. We had about half our team last year raise money, and the other half came for moral support, which is equally important!
You can go to Brent's page http://www.walk.jdrf.org/index.cfm?f...irmid=86669184 and click on "Join This Team" at the top of the page, and it will walk you through the process.
If anyone IS interesting in walking with us, PLEEEEEEEASE sign up online ASAP so we can get a count for how many Team T-shirts we need to order. Before the order goes in, I will email everyone to check on sizes, but we need at least some idea of how many we're looking at.
We would love to have a big ol' Scion crew walk with us!
