Default monday's are always bad

hello all,

let me say this, i am glad i bought a tC...

that being said, let me explain why...

monday night, my fiancé and i were on our way to go meet her friend at a restaurant when i get a mid-80's 180 or 240 sx riding my a$$ on the 143 north. i decide to try to get him off of me. i succeed in getting him off of me, but nearly miss the turn for the 202 East (we were meeting him in Scottsdale). however, i did not notice how fast i was going, but it was fast enough for the rear sway bar to cause the car to oversteer and slam into the concrete barrier on the right side of the road which we bounced off of and went off of the left side of the road and rolled the tC about 2 times, landing back on the wheels. My fiancé was knocked unconcious for about 30 seconds after the inital impact and came to once the accident was over. All 3 airbags deployed (driver & passenger, driver knee airbag). The DPS officer that showed up at the scene said that he expected to be looking for at least one body that was ejected from the car by just looking at the wreck and was relieved when he pulled up and both of us were standing outside of the car. Both of us are doing fine, Katie's (my fiancé) CAT scan came up ok so she doesn't have a concussion, but she does have a bad bruise and some small cuts from where the seatbelt locked down and kept her in place. As for me, I just have a bruise & cut from when the airbag deployed. The only question we have from this accident is why didn't the curtain airbags deploy when the car rolled over?

Thank you all in advance for your concern, at this time I don't know if I will be able to afford another tC or not. Rest in peace RS 2.0 #1396...

Josh

Sorry to hear that man! The way some people ride you in this town is just down right frustrating. And I am sure the 240 didn't even stop or anything. Sorry again, glad your fiance is doing well. You need anything you let us know!!!!!

That sucks, good thing you are both ok. I would assume the side airbags would only deploy from a side collision, and you probably only hit the top and bottom of the car when rolling. Just my guess though

yea, the crazy/scary thing is that she normally never wore her seatbelt while she was in the car (despite my constant nagging), but that night she decided to buckle in before we even left her house...

If it rolled over they are going to total it.

Glad to hear you are ok though. Sucks to wreck a car like that though.

I think if they *did* try to fix it, it would never drive the same. I'd rather have it totaled and get a new one if it was me.

Glad you guys are safe though!

Rolling over isn't the only deciding factor on insurance totalling a car. If the structural damage of the car is okay and the frame isn't bent, you should be able to get them to fix it. It also depends on what sort of damage is done to the engine. Unfrotunately I have been there and done that, had a few accidents before I was 18, you could say I had a little bit of lead foot.

Also, think of the airbag system in the car as well. For just one seatbelt with the pretensioner is at least 400 or more. So you figure, if those two, as well as all the sensors, new front and side airbags and whatnot, including the inteior pieces that are messed up in the process, you are looking at a pretty penny just for the restraint system.

I would figure a rollover will all those deployments, they are bound to scrap it. It would cause too much money and too much time to fix that. Plus, think of the car rentals for that long ___ time you would be without a car. That's why I ended up springing for the GAP insurance. They pay my loan in full and give me fair market for the box. I hope everything gets taken care of and glad that you are both well.

True, but I highly doubt you could possibly roll a tC and not cause enough damage to total it.

yea glad to hear you and your fiance are ok. how much damage did the front end take? if the airbag unit is destroyed then it is most likely going to be totalled. sorry to hear about this and good luck with everything.
