Default tires - any suggestions?

Hi everyone,

I just got back from having my oil changed and was told that I should replace my tires soon. I've got a tc with stock tires that have 16-17K miles on them. Any suggestions on replacements or where to get them locally? I'm looking for a good deal all around - money & quality. Before the tc I would have just gone out and gotten the best price....now I care a little bit more.

Thanks everyone!

If the car is stock and someone correct if I am wrong here shouldnt that be taken to the dealership. I wouldnt think stock tires would go that quickly??

It wouldnt hurt to goto the service dept and ask. They may tell you it is wear and tear but it doesnt hurt to ask.

Tire mileage all depends on they were maintained. Have they ever been rotated - at every
6k. Air pressure checked once a month etc etc etc. There are alot of tire shops in town
and I think the guy's at discount tire will quote you a fair and honest price.

All tires are now rated for tread life. Make sure you compare the ratings before you purchase. Correct air is the most important thing along with proper allignment.

are you a "burnout queen" ? You really should be able to get more life out of those tires than just that

Thanks for the comments so far. Both my husband and I were a bit surprised at the suggestion since I am driver who doesn't peel out or race. Plus, I have had my tired rotated at each oil change. The only exception would be this one. I was so excited to use my complimentary oil change that I forgot about the tire rotation. Oh well, I'll have that done elsewhere this week. Then I can have someone take a second look at the tires. I was just hoping that someone might have a good suggestion on tires/locations, etc if I do indeed need to have my tires changed.

True -- But the ratings are based on a goverment requirement. The ratings don't reflect real world driving. But a higher rating will usually meen better tire wear - If they are properly taken care of . If you have other questions let me know.

Check out the guys at Rim1/East Valley Imports. They've been great to our customers and the Scion Community in general. If you need rubber they'll tell you straight up.

Discount is great too but Rim1 actually gets involved with us at meets a few times a year. Big sponsor at SpringQUAKE. In fact, you might even win new shoes if you're coming to the meet in March.

Contact Rim1 @ 480-832-7467

Tell them we sent you!

Rim1 will definitely help you out if you go there. I haven't gone anywhere else for balancing, rotation, new tires, etc. since I went there.

I have heard nothing but good things about Rim1. Plus they are really active in the Scion community.

I have a question. I have no idea about tires. Since I bought my my car back in Feb of 2005 I bought new tires once. I got it from this one place called Mod Concepts. My ex-bf ordered them for me and all I had to do was drive my car there, pay and sign the invoice. Tires come with some kind of warranty right? Like I said I never bought tires before and I didnt figure to ask if I get warranty. I think Mod Concepts are wheels only right?

Well I slashed my tires several days ago driving westbound on t-bird by banner health, I ran over something. Of course I had to buy a new tire, I still had the invoice in my car so I called them again to replace my tire. I can't help but feel like I may have gotten ripped off. What do you think I should have checked for? or asked them?

Some companies will provide a warrenty for the tires and some will not. I ask before purchasing the rims and tires if I can purchase a warrenty for them. Some places ship you the tires with a warrenty and others dont. I purchased my rims and tires from Discount Tire and they sold me a warrenty for $30 a tire I think and I've had 5 tires replaced in the last year and a half. Just ask prior to buying them if they offer warrenties and if not see if they can pro-rate the tires. You might want to call them back and see if they can sell you a warrenty for your new tire incase something happens again.

I've never heard of or shopped at Mod Concepts so I don't know how there policies work, sorry. Maybe someone else online here knows about them.

I have low profile tires on mine and if someone could correct me if I'm wrong but those wear down quicker than the stock tires would. With that having been said, I have 16K on them and they still look fairly new. I should still have another 8-10K left on them, so I would think your tires should be good for at least till 25K. Maybe the car needs to be aligned? You can wear the tires out pretty quick if the vehicle is not aligned properly or the tires are not balanced every so often, although they usually get balanced when rotated. I would have the dealer look at it and tell you, or Rim1 like everyone else has suggested.

I take mine to Discount Tire, when you purchase them there they rotate, balance and fix flats for free. I've had mine down there 3 times in the last month to have a hole patched or a tire inspected for leaks. Walked out without spending a penny.

We used to use Mod Concepts for the wheel & tire packages we sell on our menu. We've since switched to Rim 1. It wasn't anything Mod Concepts did wrong, they were solid as a vendor, we just didn't feel much enthusiasm for the Scion community from them. Rim1 is a completely different story. Those guys rock!

As for warranty... I think that is the wrong word. What we're talking about here is road hazard coverage and, as far as I know, it has always been an added coverage when you buy tires. Some places include it, sure, but it just means they build it into the pricing.

Tires, by themselves, generally do not come from the manufacturer with road hazard included.

Sorry!
