Can you believe it's been a year?
January 2005 I was driving home from work in my "winter beater" when I was hit head
on by an older Mexican guy with poor sense of timing. He thought he could beat
oncoming traffic cutting across 4 lanes diagonally and get into his apartment
complex 20 seconds sooner. He accelerated his 80's vintage Buick, cut in front of
a full size Ford pickup, totally not seeing me on the other side of the pickup. Police
estimate he was doing about 45-55, and I was doing 45MPH the other direction.
If I was in anything besides a pre-GM SAAB Turbo, I probably wouldn't be walking today.
Apparently in the instant I saw this car coming at me, clearly on collision course,
I braced myself by laying my right forearm across the steering wheel, and with my
left hand I grabbed the door handle. The impact was so intense that the steering
wheel wrapped around my forearm, and I tore the door handle off. The keys shot out
of the ignition, and the sun roof shot forward and out of it's track.
Needless to say, I needed another car.
Fast Forward a few weeks, I'm researching cars online and I read that the Scion xB
has the lowest cost of ownership, and was best wagon under $15,000. A quick test
drive, and I was sure this was the car for me....
One year later, a few grand of mods and lights, and a dual sunroof. I'm still getting
30MPG with the stock wheels, even with my somewhat aggressive driving. I still
get stopped at the gas station with people asking me what is that! I've made a lot of
new friends, and had a lot of fun times with the Scion crowd, even took home a few
trophy!
It's been a fun year, and I hope to see many more!

Well, ignoring the fact that he tried speaking spanish to me
when I checked to see if he was OK, and that we needed
a Spanish speaking translator, (he didn't speak English)
his last name might have given it away.

There is atleast, maybe 20 other "spanish" speaking groups in this world THAT AREN'T MEXICAN, research it before you call everyone who speaks "spanish"...MEXICAN next time...
Sorry if I sound a little ____ed off...
Ok, allow me to elaborate, or elucidate if you please.
I was passing through a Mexican neighborhood.
My last name is Ventura
Everyone in my family is brown (but me oddly), and lives in the south western part of the US.
So feel free to be ____ed and express it here in the forums.
It's about as funny to me as when a Mexican guy tried to
convince the police that the bar fight the cops broke up was
race related. Sore loser, heh.
Oh la ley holmes! Just call me Milkweed!
