Default Front License Plate

Has anyone gotten a Scion xA in Texas (or a Gulf States Region) without the holes drilled for the front license plate?

I specifically confirmed with the dealer that I could get my car without the front license plate holes drilled, and they said they could. I made a very big deal out of it and said I wouldn't want the car if it had the holes. They just called me and said that the holes are drilled BEFORE it even gets to the port in the US. I guess they are saying they are drilled in Japan.

I have a hard time believing that is true. They said that cars destined for other ports do not necessarily have the holes drilled when I told them I looked at cars in North Carolina that had little indentions but no holes drilled.

They are telling me it is impossible to get a car without the holes drilled.

I hate front license plates. I've been driving my current car for 12 years without any issues while not having the front license plates. I really don't want a car with holes drilled.

I guess maybe I have to go to another state to purchase a car without the license plate holes. I don't know whether I want to accept the car or not if it has the holes.

well my fiance and I both bought our tC's at Sterling McCall and requested that the license plate not drilled in the front and both of our tC's just came liked we asked. So I find that hard to believe also...Why dont' you go to Sterling McCall Scion that's where my finace James works...he'll help with whatever you need.

they are lying. the dealership people are the ones who drill the holes, and you can get them to not drill them for you. the law requires that you have a front plate in texas so dealers are not really keen on not putting them cause the slight chance that they might get in trouble for the owner of the car using the defense "well the dealer didn't put one there."

wether you have had trouble or not the plate is supposed to be there. it really depends on if the cop wants to be an ___.

There are no holes predrilled. The actuall dealer drills the wholes for the plates. However there are dented in marks to where the plates go. Unless my customers ask we always drill the holes. However we have had special request not to and we we honored there wishes.

I just got back from the dealer. He said they would be willing to fill in the holes and repaint the small area where the holes are to make it smooth.

I'm a little weary about having paint work done on a brand new car. I know alot of people on this site do mods that require painting, but I'm really hesitant to have that done.

I have the option of walking away from the deal or getting the paint work done. I'll give the sales guy credit for not trying to screw me.

Before I signed anything I asked if they could not drill the holes for the license plate. They said yes. The sales guy even wrote it on my paperwork, underlined it, and highlighted it. I told him it was really important to me and I didn't want a car with holes drilled for the license plate. I don't blame him. My guess is that they got a new shipment of cars (by the way, they now have 4 xA's on the lot, the most I have ever seen at that dealership) and the service/prep department cleaned them up and drilled the holes before the sales guy could do anything.

The sales guy was trying to tell me that no xA's could come without the license plate holes drilled. He said he could get Tc's that way. He said it had something to do with being easy to crack the xA front bumper when they drill. At first, it seemed like he was saying they are drilled before they arrive in port.

I called another dealer (Sterling McCall at the recommendation of someone on this thread), and they said they I could order an xA and not get the holes drilled (of course, that is what the 1st dealer said as well). He said legally I have to have a front license plate and could put it in the front window. I know he just told me that to cover for the dealership. I said that was fine and I could do that.

I have until tomorrow afternoon to decide if I want to take the car. I'm really leaning towards walking away. The holes might not seem like a big deal, but it is to me. I made it very clear when I ordered the car that I wouldn't take it with holes in the bumper. I'm sure he would still be able to sell it pretty easily. It is IIP manual with security system, spoiler, foglights, iPod stereo, and center armrest (I know I could have installed some of that myself).

It sucks I'll have to wait 4 - 6 weeks for another car though. I only waited 2 weeks for this one because it was already on a ship headed for the US. I already have a bunch of options sitting in my dining room ready to install. However, I'll probably keep the car 10 years, so I want to be happy with it.

honestly the way you are talking about it. it will annoy you for as long as you have the car, even if they are hard to see you will see them and notice them each time you look at the car.

and really the front of the xA and tC are made from the same plastic and one shouldn't be any more prone to cracking than the other.

I have to agree with gipjr84...once you notice it...you will ALWAYS notice it. It's just that unwritten thing...I would suggest walking away. So far you got two for two on Sterling McCall and jonathan110987 is right...my stop by Sterling McCall Scion all the time...heheh only cause my fiance is there and of course its the urge to see what else is out there...I would say 8 out of 10 that I look don't have drilled in plates on the front bumper. Look around...trust me the wait will be worth while and it'll what YOU WANT. You're paying for it...why not get what YOU WANT.

Thanks for everyone's input. I went by another dealer tonight and they said they could definitely prevent the holes from being drilled. They said all xA's have the holes drilled at the dealership and they just have to note not to do it.

The holes would annoy me, and having to get it repainted would probably annoy me, so I'm just going to order the car from another dealer.

I guess I'm **** about no holes for the license plate, but the car should make me happy, and I've been really clear with the dealers on what I want.
