Pulled over for my exhaust...
hmm... well to start off this happened at 815 in the morning on a sunday when i was on my way to work.... but anyways, i was at a stop light and the cop was in the lane next to me and one car back. suddenly he pulled diagonally into my lane behind me... so right then i knew i was going to get pulled over... well i took off from the light and he was riding my butt the whole time and turned his lights on, meanwhile he was downing a bag of chips finishing them off. I pulled over into the parking lot of chipotle (awesome food by the way) and he came up immediately saying "so uh... whats wrong with your muffler?" and so i replied "nothing" and he mentioned that it wasnt stock... which was obvious... (concept g exhaust) and so he said that it was illegal to have it. well i know that it is not illegal to have exhaust as long as it is comparable to your stock exhaust and not too loud (below 95 dB) well i told him that and he was like "yeah... we'll see about that" and so he went back to his car all ____ed off cause i told him that i knew the law. well he walked up to my window and handed me the ticket. I asked him what i was being charged with and he said "muffler not in working order (loud)" and so i litterally laughed at his face and said that i have a 2007 car and that my muffler works just fine. well he was like "save it for the judge" and so yeah now i have to go to court cause i dont wanna pay this ticket.... i hate manassas cops... sorry this is so long but its just annoying haha but it felt good laughing in his face

I really can't catch a break here lately...the man has it out for me.
But anyways, this weekend on the way up to the Shenendoahs for some camping, I got pulled over by your typical bored state trooper profiling the bright green box cruising (at the speed limit) down his mountain roads. He pulled me over and gave me a ticket for "illegal exhaust" because my muffler is not "stock, or stock-like"
Then I proceeded to ask him if he works 2nd shift at the local Scion dealership because he has such a great knowledge of cars and what is stock and what isn't
I know the law and agree that aftermarket exhausts are illegal in VA and I'm not trying to argue that BUT I have a DC Sports axle-back exhaust which comes as standard equipment on the xB RS2...yes I know that it doesn't come standard on MY model but do you guys think that I have a good argument? Could I somehow get a letter from Toyota/Scion stating this information and do you think that would help me if I was to fight it? And another question, is there any way that I can fight this locally without driving 2 hours to the Augusta County courthouse?
On a side note...he didn't know what to put for "Model" on the ticket so he tried his best to draw his interpretation of the bB emblem. There's a dot and possibly an R and a weird design that looks like a U. It was a mess of a drawing and I really couldn't tell what it says.

Here's the VA code for exhausts.
"§ 46.2-1049. Exhaust system in good working order. No person shall drive and no owner of a motor vehicle shall permit or allow the operation of any vehicle on a highway unless it is equipped with an exhaust system of a type installed as standard factory equipment, or comparable to that designed for use on the particular vehicle as standard factory equipment, in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise. An exhaust system shall not be deemed to prevent excessive or unusual noise if it permits the escape of noise in excess of that permitted by the standard factory equipment exhaust system of private passenger motor vehicles or trucks of standard make."

i got the tanabe g too. i got pulled over leaving my girls house in her neighborhood by a lady cop on a horse. i was going down hill so i didnt even gave it gas. i think she was just out to get people. i didnt get a ticket but i got a re inspection notice. i went to dmv and they said it was fine. its all because its an import. if it was a mustang or a old gto or chevelle i bet i wouldnt of gotten pulled over

so wait i got the same ticket for illegal exhaust, cop told me i have to take it off show a picture of the stock exhaust to the judge and iam off, but do i have to pay court cost?
i was thinking of taking my exhaust off (my HKS) and taking it into court with me, and if i get pulled over for it being to loud be like, " well officer i just got back from court and they told me to take my exhaust off, so i did, and i dont have the stock exhaust or money to buy one, so what is a man to do"

TRD is stock equipment. I'd be like "well judge, without a DB reading of the stock TRD equipment, and my muffler I am not sure how we could proceed with this case. Since the officer has not provided the court a reading of the stock TRD exhaust and the muffler I have I am asking for a dismissal of this case." A real judge will agree and dismiss the case on lack of evidence.
