Headlight/Taillight Tint Laws in NC?
Hey all,
I was curious about the legality of doing tint/blackouts for taillights in NC, and possibly applying a tint to the headlights as well. The tint that BlueBatman offers is what I want to get done.
I've been able to find the standard window tint laws on the DMV site and when I call and ask about headlight/taillight tint I get answers like "far as I know you can't tint headlights or taillights..."
I've seen people driving around with blackouts and tint, and I was curious if they are in fact illegal in NC or if there is some law about them.
Anyone have an idea?

I know badbasic has passed inspection in NC with tinted tail lights, if that helps. I ride around with mine tinited in NC all the time and never been bothered for them, altough my car is registered in SC. If I had to guess I doubt you'd have a problem, but sometimes your never know.
headlights are to be white, taillights are to be red, amber, white. the standard used to be visible from 500 ft but i havent inspected cars for years so i dont know if that has changed. talk to a local insp. shop to find out for sure. be sure to see it in writing since some inspectors read what they want into the laws. case in point was the fact of having a cracked windshield. whether or not it was in the view of the driver or not made no difference- you could not fail it since it is not on the inspection sheet. however, there is a space for comments on the bottom of the page that the inspector could denote such things. still, some people were getting there cars rejected for it. http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/vehicle_ser...nforcement.pdf
this is the official website for inspections if you have any questions. hope this helps

headlamps must be white or yellow in color. and must not be blocked or obstructed by brush guards, covers etc. some insectors may have not passed badbasic's lights.
taillights must be red for brakes and red or amber for turn. reverse lights are not part of the NC inspection but must not be on while driving car forward.
also our back windows are exempt from tint testing, but the front windows MUST be 32% +- 3% on the tint meter.
i can go on and on.
