Pittsburgh Scion Owners
Steve,
We have kicked around the idea of doing Autocross with the xB. How hard on the car is it? It is my daily driver and really can't afford to screw it up but do want to have some fun. So what are your thoughts?

tim, to your autocross comment:
autocrossing takes a lot of prep, and be ready to go through a nice set of tires after a day event. As for the box, i really wouldnt recommend it without modifying the suspension (lowering especially) since the box sits so high. the chassis itself is relatively stiff and a good platform since it's a box, but the OEM setup is just too wobbly in my opinion for a legitimate and safe autocross experience. it will be a bit tough on the car since it's not meant to perform, but it's not going to kill it. the biggest issues i see are tire wear, brake wear, fluids going over operating temp, and maybe hitting something (a cone) on the course, but those should be negligible if you're careful.
that's just my 2 cents.

you will go though a set of tires a season and brakes and it does wear on the car, a lot of guys race there daily but there like scoobys and sport cars for the most part. Hardcore peep tow there cars in but you have to have $$ which i dont
i ripped the control arm off my 1st MR2 one time
Tech inspect is a real PIA, they check for every little thing and if somethings a miss you fail and cant run
depending on what SCCA event your doing everything needs to be FIA certified and you need a 4 point harness to run
cones will scuff the paint too so if its your daily tape off the edges of the bumper
yea what big jim said, SCCA wont allow the XB to even run so that kinda sucks
but you might be able to get some sort of track time
our MR2 club went to buy the track for a few hours but with 10 of us it was still like 350 bucks a car
im broke so i havent even been at the track at all this year + i need FIA seats and my current seat setup is not FIA approved
its a fun time, if you really wanted to do it pick up and older car and do it up
Miata 's do really well due to there 50/50 ballance

Tim,
What's up brah?? I'm glad that you had a blast at last years Scion Car Show!! Unfortunately -- we are not having a show this year!! I wish we were -- it's gotten larger over the last two years. We have had a lot a changes in Management and our lot is flooded with these stupid recall trucks!! I promise that we will have a big show next year!! We have already been working on some things to have a show early in the year next spring to early summer!!! I tried everything I could to get a show this year, but I couldn't pull it off!! I'll keep you posted.
Thank you,

thanks guys! Im looking forward to it!
Tell me what your opinions are on this:
Brand new, any color i want, base model with manual transmission. Still has power windows, locks, cruise, sunroof, etc. - $17,500
I put $2000 down, and then he added on a "college grad. program" of another $400 down... so $2400 down. Monthly payments would be $298 for 5 years.
It comes with a 3 year, 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty and 60,000 motor and tranny warranty.
FREE oil changes for the life of the car at the specific dealership. Free car washes too (not that I would use those). AND free PA inspections for the life of the car as well!
If I bought used, I would be waiting a while to find the right one, with the right color, and right price. AND the interest rate would be higher buying used... heck all the ones ive seen on craigslist and autotrader and ebay are all like 13,000+. So my payments would still almost be $300/mo.
I think buying new would be the way to go. Opinions?
also note: I might spring and have the pedastal spoiler added on. I like that look. But as for modifying this car, the most I would be doing is lowering it a little bit, putting some nice wheels on, tint the windows, maybe tint the taillights, debadge it, and call it a day. Just have a nice and clean look.
Also, i am trying to decide between these colors:
The only con ive heard about these cars is that the paint is soft and can scratch or get stone chips easily. As nice as a clean black vehicle looks, I dont think I will ever own one. Way too hard to keep looking nice... especially for a daily.
I was leaning towards white.
It's between super white:

classic Silver metallic:
