Insurance Woes!

If you think it is messed up that your girl and you are being sued for an accident where your girl was at falt in your car I have a better one for you.

Heads Up Scion Cop this happened here in the Nutmeg State.

My brorhesr GF was driving his car. Wile sitting stoped at a traffic light she was hit by an un licenced underage driver in a stolen car. Can you guess who the girl in the back seat of the stolen car sued for her inguries?

If you guessed My Brother you are correct. Why? Because he was the only person conected to the accident with insurance. The killer, His Insurance paid. It took him 5 years, two Mechanics liens, and a court order to keep the kid that hit his car from getting a lisence until the debt was paid off for my brother to get the money for the dammages to his car. Now that sucks!

I'm back from Vacation. I missed some posts and I'll be sure to get to them soon. I am at work now so I can't spend time on them.

hey Scioncop-

I'm currently in Iraq, in the CT National Guard, but coming back home to the great state of CT next month, and Hoping to get my Box when I return. Just wanted to share that my second cousin is a statie (out of East Haddam) and my platoon leader here is also a statie. It's wonderful what you've done here, and i'll admit it- it makes me homesick to hear you guys talk about route 9 and 91. Never had the pleasure of being pulled over by you guys, but i was once pulled over twice in 10 minutes on rt 6 in Bristol by the cops out there. Nice enough guys, just extremely vigilant.

Anyways, I got a question for you; I was pulled over once going down 9 south going about 78, and I was pulled over. He was nice enough to just write me a ticket for failure to obey a traffic sign, than for speeding, as I was in my army uniform on my way to drill. I paid the ticket, and i was wondering if that counted as a point against my license. This was about a year about, but I was deployed last October, and it's always kinda bugged me.

thanks again man.

Default Doc-Mario / Ticket

First I want to say thank you for the service you are providing. I was a member of the 143rd Military Police Unit out of Hartford Ct in the 90's.

That ticket may count as points against your license but I would imagine it would be less than a speeding ticket.

Remeber in Ct your violations expire after three years of issue. So maybe your a year short from the expiration date. Don't get anymore!

thanks for the quick reply, scioncop. one more question, though- just thought of it.

I was thinking about putting in a MOMO steering wheel into my box. Thing is, if you put one in, then I won't have an airbag. Is that illegal in CT? I know it is in Ca, but what isn't.

143rd MP? Awesome. Is that reserve or NG?

im glad im finally getting the chance to ask this...
i was driving down i-65 in indiana...people flat out speed on this highway (its indiana
all there is in corn). And i mean lk the right lane moves at about 75-80 (no joke).
My question is, a cop was in the left lane doing 80 in a 70, if i was to follow that cop, even though he didnt have flashers on, would i be speeding....better yet, could he pull me over for speeding?

Sorry don't want to intreupt but a few people here in Ct. Have switched their Steering wheel it's just a B###h to get by taking it off without deploying the Air Back Make sure you Disconnect the Battery "first " Also some Car Clubs in the area Are Scikotics And Team scioNrg if you want just go to Scion clubs in the Forms Section And Click on either one or if you want you Can join Both..there are plenty of people who are serious about modifiy the Box's and keeping them Legal at the Same Time .Good Luck and hope to see you around when you get your Box..

awesome, man. I really can't wait to get back to the US and buy my box. I'm going for the BSP '06, hopefully I don't have to wait too long after I get back, as I sold my old car before I left. (93 Taurus GL. Ugh.)
But yeah. Is putting on a new steering wheel legal in CT without an airbag? I know the xB will still have the turn cancel and horn, so I'm happy about that.

I was planning on joining ScioNRG when I returned, I didn't know anything about Scikotics. I checked out the website, seems like a cool enough crew, but it had no info on the club itself. I'll have to look up more later on. But thanks for the heads up! I'll definately need some help from someone when modding, I'm a noob when it comes to it all.

The cop may be at code-2 responding to a call. Speeding is speeding. A cop speeding does not constitute free for all.

I have no idea about the air-bag status. I will check into that.

Doc- 143rd MP is a NG unit based on Brainard Rd in Hartford. they just got deployed to New Orleans.

ScionCop,

I can't thank you enough for this thread - this is some fantastic info!

A question I've been mulling over for a while that you may be able to help me out with: what is a cop's jurisdiction on an interstate highway (vs. a state trooper's), and vica versa? From my understanding, state troopers can be used as first-response units in accidents and whatnot when off highways, but I'm a little fuzzy on when who has the authority to "police" me and where? No real-life application, just a hypothetical question I've been curious about. Thanks for any info you can offer!

Back in my Army days in the 80s we had to take two driver's ed courses to get a military D/L for CONUS and overseas. Both courses had some incredible information that I never heard anywhere else. For example, the course at Ft. Belvoir, VA was given by a State trooper who said that:

1. It is technically illegal to back out of a driveway in Virginia.
2. If you are following a speeding cop who is not on a call and somehow get pulled over by such in Virginia, you could successfully use the defense that a policeman has the right to adjust the road speed and that you were following the policeman under that premise. (He gave out the law code that this falls under but 20 years has faded it from my memory.)

In Germany, aside from the completely different approach that is taken there, the overarching theme is, "know your right aways AND TAKE THEM!" But I can honestly say that I have only seen 2 accidents in Germany in 2 years but they were caused by Americans not knowing the right aways. I still travel there a lot and it still holds today. The driving examiner pounded on the dashboard, "You must drive 50Km/h on cobblestone! Don't slow down because it makes noise in the car!"

I only wish that some of the German rules would take hold here. i.e. stay right on the freeway unless you are passing. no left lane pirates!

Just for the heck of it, I would love to open up my xB on the autobahn (well at least in the right lane)

In Ct municipal Police can stop cars on the highways. I really don't know what the troopers follow but I haven't seen them stop cars on city streets.

scion cop
thanks for answering all the question! its been very informative reading teh past posts.

well i have a question. not too long ago i was a victim of the red light cameras (los angeles ca). well 2 questions.

1. I heard somewhere that cops can only issue tickets if they are on the scene. I dont think getting a ticket from a camera follows that rule.

2. According to the information on the ticket the light had just turned red for 0.42 seconds when i crossed the line. Sometimes when the lights are yellow its sometimes hard to deceide whether to go or to stop, especially in my case since there was a car tailgating me. I mean if i had stopped it would have been a pretty abrupt stop and could end badly, so i stepped on it and didnt make it. well now the question is... if there was a cop at the scene, or better yet, if you were at this light would you or would you not pull me over. given the circumstances.

one more question. Its about that spray that you spray on the licence plates so that when cameras take pictures of it the flash reflects off the plate and makes it unreadable. is that legal? I heard about it a few months ago and i remember they were still debating about it. someone used the radar detectors as defense since we're allow that since cops have the radars and that we should be able to use the spray because of the cameras...
seems wrong haha, but was just wondering if you could clear that up for me

thanks!

Yes you can. Since it's a routine problem you can call the police and have them wait for the truck to roll by your house. They can stop the truck and issue it an ispection sticker, ticket or both.

Vernon Police are good and will address the issue if you speak to a supervisor. It's considered a quality of life issue. Talk to your neighbors and see if it's bothering them too. Have them call the police as well.

As far as the cameras go. I don't have any experience with that since we don't have them in our area. Sorry I can't answer that for you.

As far as if I was at the scene and stopped you under the circumstances you described. You can get a ticket if a so choosed too. And with what you said you just admitted to being in violation of the traffic light.

People don't realize that in Ct 14-299 violation of a traffic signal C.G.S. means violation of the light indicator "any color"

If you speed up on yellow and beat the red light guess what. i can stop you and still give you a ticket.

I am not familiar with the spray but in Ct there can be no attachments to a license plate of any kind unlesss authorized by the commissioner of DMV. That would tell me that the spray is out.

It's not an attachment of any kind, though. The spray doesn't show up at all, so it's not covering anything.
