Default TRD CAI Legality?

Hey guys,
I'm trying to find out if the TRD cold air intake is legal where my car is registered (Connecticut). I see on TRDsparks.com that it is "intended for off-road use only". Of course, they say numerous times that it isn't CARB legal, but I know that's only CA. Can this CAI pass inspection in CT? I'm assuming that most states in the northeast have the same laws, so if anybody can share the info with any state, that'd be great.

Awesome, I hate having problems passing inspection of being hasseled!

Are all of the intakes for the tC legal in CT (which I suppose is the same as NY, after all, both states actual sell and install the intake, so i'd assume it has to be legal)

i just don't get how a car could pollute more with a less restrictive air filter. i figure that most of the pollution comes from the the combustion and and exhaust and so on. how does a cai increase pollution?

have you tried calling your state inspection office?
I called the Maine state police office and the inspection guy said that if its Carb legal in CA it is in Maine, and that I cant touch the cat for 8 years, but then again he also said I could call again if I have more questions for all my aftermarket parts if legal in Maine. So yeah, I think I will get an Injen though. Cause I see alot of people say it works best. and also there is a post somewhere on SL comparing the different cai with dynos and all and the injen cai, alpha werks header and all get best whp. Any ways if they are not legal, take them off and sell them on eBay. I mean I dont want any probs either, but its almost winter, so im gonn save $$$ for the spring for any more power and body kit mods.

I haven't tried that, I actually called the dealer today to ask and they said that they haven't heard anything about it being illegal and that they could sell it and install it. They said to bring it back to them if there is a problem passing inspection that they will take it out/put it back in for me if necessary, but that means that i'd have to pay them to do the initial install which I won't. They said they will check for me, but who knows?! It seems to be a fairly questionable area, but asking the popo seems like a logical thing to do

Im gonna get a injen or try to save for one, and try to install it myself. i mean it cant be too hard. Take off bumper and old one put it in? I wouldnt pay for anything I think I can do myself. But yeah, call your state police inspection office and ask them. And isnt your dealer also an inspection station? If they say it will pass, then it will pass, and if some cop ifs you beef with a ticket or something, you can blame the dealer for passing you. Anyways good luck and keep me posted, im trying to get through to the US EPA and all and waiting to see the CARB status on the injen.

With the TRD, I think it's doable without removing the bumper since its 2.5" rather than 3" injen, even though i've heard you can even do the injen without removing the bumper. But anyway, I have my stepdad to help me who is good with his hands.
