Default My 10 cents

I go to the meets and gatherings because I love cars, especially modded ones. I think its kinda like art, each person having there own taste and styles.
Along with those unique taste and styles come different personalities, some attractive some less than attractive.
I like to meet new people as well but feel a certain "cliqueeness" when I approach some different groups/clubs/people. Well thats fine because thats what clubs do, seperate a group of people from everyone else.
I ALWAYS try to go look at each and every car at the meets Xa,Xband tC's , first because I'm actually intrested, second, to be somewhat social. I see alot of people that couldn't care less about other peoples rides, that are there strictly to win something. thats fine too. I know I appreciate recieving an award after spending a couple hours cleaning my car from a long week of commuting.
I don't have a problem with the way anybody is running thier events, I will simply continue to be selective of those in which I will attend. I am just thankful that people are at least trying to put together events for the scion community and hope they continue to do so.

I remember when I first came around... SCION NIGHT! The first one... Here I was working on my xB cuz somone decided to break into it 2 days before the show. I got so many complimants of the work I was doing at the show was funny... I mean I think me working on the car at the show earned me some side money back then. Anyways... Most people at that show that were showing never said hi to me... Couple did and you know who you are.

Anyways some still havent really ever introduced there self to me... But I still say hi like I have known em for years.

Anyways it has changed and its gonna keep chaning. I put money in my car to be competitive I wont lie. But I am always open to meet others. I love getting ideas and seeing new things. I mean im here to help out the SL people... I sell stuff online, as a side job... I can honestly say that alone wouldnt keep food on the table, and I sell alot.

Its about the friends and the ones you will meet.

When people get back to that life will be so much more happier.

But I will say this. This is why in my crew there are only one car per make and model class... We dont have 2 civic or 2 350z or 2 accord. Theres always somone that takes stuff the wrong way or takes the competiveness to the next level and ruin it foreveryone.

I'm glad to see my wife and I aren't the only ones that see things like this. Since I didn't get my xB back in 04 or 03 for that matter, I am playing catch-up with the mods, sponsorship and friends.
Some people are happy with the tight knit groups they are in. Thats GREAT for them. I am happy they are happy. For me looking in, though, it doesn't seem like a freindly, outgoing, WELCOMING bunch that IT SHOULD BE.
This is just how I see it through MY eyes and it may not be the case...but I have yet to see anyone prove me wrong. This isn't the only post about this topic or VERY similar ones on this board.
I am not trying to ____ anyone off or offend anyone, but being a newb is tough. Really tough. And if I can't get ANY recognition from anyone, then it makes the whole group look bad.
I know not everyone is like this, but "if you're not in, you're OUT". And I am out!
Here's something to think about...If I come to an event and a rep, presenter, dealer, owner only acknowledges those who are majorly modded, sponsored or not, what does that do to the little guys like me? 1. It ____es me off. 2. It makes me want to NOT COME BACK. 3. It shows me that to be 'someone' in this group, I need sponsorship or money or major mods. 4. It doesn't show a "bonding" AT ANY LEVEL that should be there.
Please, people, show a little encouragement to the newbs and lesser modded car owners out there.
WE are the ones who will be buying the products from the companies, NOT the sponsored guys, NOT the guys who are 'done' with their rides. NOT the reps. NOT the dealers. They already have their stuff!
I just hope that if I decide to go to another show/event/meet, that I can at least shake a hand or two...and maybe get a few questions answered! Good luck Jaime with any furure meets you go to.
SMILE everyone! Show some love even if you don't know them. Help a brutha out! The person you help may be helping you down the road!

<--------NEWBIE! BE NICE! WAVE! SHAKE A HAND OR TWO!
A little acknowledgement goes A LONG way!!!

Yup, that's why I'm running solo and trying to decide if I even want to continue with this part of my life. Some peeps just don't know how to seperate the different facets in their life.

I guess its how some peeps are raised. Some are raised to be helpful, and some are just plain predators. Some pay for everything because they know the value of working hard for what they want, and some will..........I won't go any further.

I know that if I saw a face I didn't recognize at a meet, I would walk and talk w/ them, or if I was cleaning the car and they walked up, I would say HI.

And to the new peeps, I apologize I won't be around, to lend an ear about spending money on worthless mods, and about taking care of other matters.

Some peeps will come off as being genuine when you first meet them, but you will quickly see how things change. Don't let the niceness fool you. Its only hiding their alter-EGOs.

I'm prolly better off hanging out the honduh crowd. More friends and business contacts over there anyway. A turbo-charged EK is alot more fun to drive and peeps don't mind talking tech stuff. No secrets w/ them.

Like the sigline says, "It was real, and it was fun, but it wasn't real fun!"

Scott, I still have the xB, for the time being.

I'm scaling waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back, and only going to hang out w/ a few close friends from now on. The events I organize aren't even going to be posted here, I'm just going to call a few peeps and hang out.

Calvin, you're good friends w/ Kris, right? Its all good. I'll be in touch also.

I don't know what has happened to Brad in the past or to Jaime. My input on this topic is from MY OWN experience.

It seems that the problem is that everyone has their little tight knit group of freinds here and there and are plenty happy with the people they are around. When a new person comes around, the 'groups' tend to stick to their own....which is FINE, but it hurts the new people trying to get involved.
It is like the new people (me, in this instance) are being judged before they even try to get to know anyone. I am on the outside looking in...And I am sorry to say, from what I've seen so far, I really don't like what I am seeing from my angle.

The bad part is, all this drama and complaining (mainly me) will do nothing to change the scene because the people that have been around for awhile don't care whether they welcome people or not. They are content with the friends they have and will not change because of me complaining.

People fail to realize that NOT ALL change is bad. Change is what makes things better. Without it, There would be no new veiws, ideas, positive influence, etc. We need change in our lives to come up with new things to do and see.

If I had a kick-a$$ idea, how would anyone hear of it or see it the way things are now? They wouldn't. It is everyones loss at that point. All because a few people can't leave their comfort zone for an afternoon and be the bigger person and accept that they aren't the only people with a Scion.

Brad, I hate to see you go...but I would hate to see you stay in a group that doesn't acknowledge anything good except for what so-and so's buddy has on his/her car and are blinded to any other rides out there.

Jaime, I don't know the extent of your situation, but good luck to you and it seems that in the long run, you'll be better off without the problems hovering over NorCal.

Jason, you know I want you and your wife to hang out also. And Yes, I still have your cell number.

What changed was, somewhere along the way, some felt they just had to be at a higher level than everyone else. I don't know if it was for ego, recognition factor or what. And when someone else was at that level, and they weren't, they'd revert back to their elementary and junior high school ways.

I personally could care less who got sponsored what and who won what trophy, I enjoyed being around peeps who had the same interests as me. Talking about coming up w/ new mods/ideas, etc.

I wanted something specific done to my car and got laughed at, but then someone else does it, and its the greatest thing. That's when it started happening.

Then I joined SE. I joined because here was another group of ENTHUSIASTS who had the same interests as me. And its been downhill from there.

I made "squirrel express" runs for peeps and never charged a dime for my time or gas, why? Because I THOUGHT I was helping out my friends.

Yes, quite a few are true friends, but some actually had me fooled. Basically, I was used for my generosity.

Peeps came to me because they know I will speak up about a problem, and try and fix it, yet I get labelled the *poop* stirrer. Why? Because peeps know I don't give out names.

So I have now made the decision to scale back my participation and to go and do thigs elsewhere, and I know who to call, and who not to call.

I know some will talk *poop* because I will set up an event for only a few close people. Too bad, and I'm sorry if I hurt whatever feelings you have/had.

So be it. I didn't make the situation the way it is now, I've been trying like heck to get back to the way it used to before Feb04.

But I finally realized you can't change the way some people were brought up and the way they act.

Some may be upset, but like one of my friends said to me today, it is't worth it. I know who my friends are now.
