Default New to the Bay Area...

Hello everybody!

I just moved up here from Southern California and need of some assistants! I live in Daly city/San Francisco near SF State and need a good place to go to repair my car! I really dislike dealerships since they charge up the butt for minor things. I cant DIY since I get in trouble by the cops. They let me slide when I did my brakes since I just moved here. I guess I am not allowed to work on my car if I don't have a garage

I have a '06 tC and is in need of some fixings! I was running on stock brakes and it started making a loud screeching noise.

I replaced my brakes and I thought I fixed the problem. About a week later, it did it again with my new brakes. I have no idea what it is. I called the dealership, and they said it was my rotors and in need of some "service." I do not want to go to the dealership (they wanted to charge me $89.99 for a "check-up" and another $149.99 for the service parts and another $299.99 for the labor... ), and I don't know any good mechanics here. I tried Yelp, but that didn't help me because of so many mixed reviews. Does anybody know a good place that will service my tC?!

Also, I need a place that does good paintjobs! Lived here for only 7 months and my car is getting beat since I live on campus

Sorry for the long rant, but just found this site

Thank you all for taking your time and helping me

If you're willing to drive to Milpitas, Stylis at Precision Muffler and Brake can help you with your brakes.

I'm unsure where a good place for paint is though.

a non-"stealership" place would be to ask Dave at Stevens Creek Scion.

he's probably one of very few honest mechanics out there that isn't out to charge an arm and a leg even though he works at a dealership.

he'll take care of you.

sweet, where is this place @. Does he have openings on weekends? That is my only problem. Saturday's is the only day I am free.

If it's less then 2 hours away, I don't mind the drive. Alls I need is an address and I'm there!

awww.. :? he doesn't work weekends... it's in san jose, so no more than an hour drive or so away. he does however stay later on Fridays as he doesn't close up the shop until like 8pm (sometimes later)..

that's where typically it becomes a little hangout place for many of us and pretty almost a little weekly mini-meet.

if he isn't busy and he allows it, sometimes we can use the facilities to work on our own cars. just gotta use common sense and respect the garage/shop, ya know.

(noobie fills the fridge with beverages! hah )

Hahahaha! I'll fill the fridge!

Hmm, I guess I would have to call in sick at work or something. Crud! I wouldn't mind showing my face up on friday's, but if I get out of work about 6ish, and start hitting the road, I should get to the shop by 730ish~ with traffic? Dang, I really need to get this settled.

If I ever do show up, you will know which one my tC is (listen for the loud a$$ screeching noise and 5 band-aid patchs on the drivers side)

I am that willing to give up a day or 2 at work to get my butt to SJ to get my car fixed! My "Silver Stallion" is hurting!

I never met Dave till Friday when me and a buddy went there to do a spring swap. Dave's a great guy, he let us use the shop and offered helpful suggestions.

How could I forget? Dave is another good guy to go to. I agree with Squall, he is a non-stealership guy.

Stop by the meets at Daly City on Friday evenings (late night - 9 PM on). It used to be at the Starbucks off Gellert (south of the mall) but the cops have been smacking it down the past 2 weeks.

I think the Daly City Scion folks meet recently moved to the Legion of Honor at 9 but there's popo harassing everyone everywhere.

You might be able to talk to someone closer to your area who can help you with brakes, and whatever. You will probably have to buy them lunch, dinner, and beer though.

Hmm.. It's kind of difficult if popo won't even let you work on your car though.

If you drive all the way down here and show up at 7:30 on a Friday, I don't think anyone can help you. Dave is supposed to close the shop at 8. It just depends on who's there and what's going on.
