Default Getting my car & key recoded.

I got my purse, wallet, and keys stolen a couple weeks ago at school by some b@#$^, a day before I left for a trip to the East Coast, now I'm back and I need to get my car & key recoded.

My car is fine for now since its been in the garage,.. but yeah, I go to a small alternative school and everyone knows my car,... so it must be done. No matter the cost.

Has anyone ever had theirs recoded and know how much it is?

I'm going to call up the service department of the Renton Toyota/Scion dealership soon and get it taken care of ASAP.

Send as much info this way!!! :D

I believe, all they would do is order a new iginition. Generally you would have a key that they would match the iginition to. But if you just want a whole new ignition, they will probably just randomly key one and then send it to the dealership.

You will probably pay more for installation than you will for the actual part.

Check with a locksmith as well as the dealer--you may just need some cylinders changed in the locks......

Just called the dealership... $60 to recode & $100 for a new key. ROAR! I'm getting it done on Friday.

If I remember correctly, your car came with two master keys, a valet key, and a small mini tag with a number of some sort on it. When I took delivery on my car, it came all on one keyring. The dealership would need that mini tag to re-encode new keys for you. I could be wrong. I just remember glancing at something like that in the tC owner's manual. So in the event I am wrong, I'll be glad to hand you back your 45 seconds spent reading this.

Haha,.. you owe me. I already know about that code and the extra keys.
The whole thing will be about an hour and a half to two hours long.
Its a hassle, could've been avoided if that B#@%*! Didn't steal my purse!

I'm still stuck on that "alternative school" part.

There are 3 suspects,.. and school security & the police are a dead loss.

But HEY! I like being at the alternative school,.. 5 hours a day in one class. Its quiet and works well for me. I'm redeeming alot of lost credits due to slacking in a regular high school... plus I enjoy sleeping in later.

Almost forgot to add,... all the suspects are girls.
I should just be like Tanya Harding and hire someone to whack their hands,... since they took my purse with their hands... ha ha ha.
