Just a note...
That sucks Robbie and that is why I hate our health care system and our gov't sometimes.. Good people like you don't deserve this kind of treatment - they just don't get that you're already suffering 'cause of the cancer, then loosing the income.. F (followed by a lot of other letters & ending in G) insurance companies - I hate how they can sit there and watch someone suffer
Hang in there Robbie, remember there is a huge community here ready to help however we can

Well that is jsut wonderful,a person can lose their home, there car, there property,oh and their life because an insurance company decided they do not feel the need to do their job and do what they are paid for.......

Wow Robbie. I just read through all of this. I'm so sorry to hear that you guys have to go through it.
I know it's hard, but both of you try to keep your heads up and don't give up. Things will fall into place and work out for the best.
Take care, I wish the best for you both and your families.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I have already started the appeal process with the insurance company. We'll see where that takes us. Shirley has an appointment tomorrow morning for what they call a chemo class. They tell you what to expect, how long it will take, and what you can and can't do before or after each treatment. Last time it was, no sex for a week after each treatment, your radioactive and will burn your partner, ouch, lol. Again, I come and post this to vent, get it off my chest and you people give great words of encouragement and make us feel better, for that I am greatful to have such a great group of people to lean on in tough times, thanks again.
Good to hear Robbie......

Just got back from the doc. appt.. GlaxcoSmithKline is currently doing studies with the drug that the insurance company turned down. The studies are on the east coast and in Texas. Since its not feasable for us to jump on a plane and fly to Texas, they have decided to comp. us the drug for Shirley's treatment and they will use her results in their studies. We start this new chemo treatment a week from Monday. It will be 3 days of out patient treatment, including a 24 hour period she will have a pump on, then off for two weeks and then another 3 day stretch. Then they will send her back to OHSU for further tests to get her ready for the stem cell transplant. We need to get her brother mapped to see if he is a match, if not they will use her own stem cell. Got alot of questions answered today. Tomorrow she goes in for a lymph node biopsy. We are feeling alot better about things right now. Things are moving fast, which is good, the sooner the better. We'll keep you all posted.

Robbie if you need help with dog sitting, house sitting, driving things, heck I'll pick up or drop off dry cleaning or anything you guys may need PLEASE let me know Erik and I want to be able to do SOMETHING. I'd give a kidney I would!
Just a quick update. Shirley has started her new chemo and things are going pretty good. She made it through the new drug with only a slight hic-up, she started to get a rash and her head stuffed up, but they were able to stop that and the rest went without a hitch, so that was a good thing. Ended up being a long day and they didn't get both drugs on board the first day, so they stetched out the treatment another day. So, she will have an appointment of some sort every day this week and Monday of next week, then 2 weeks off and do it all over again. Only doing two rounds this time then to OHSU for what I'm guessing will be some tests to get ready for stem cell transplant. Shirley's feeling a little ill. She has anti-nausea meds that help, so hopefully it won't be too bad. Thats about it for now.
