Want to learn to drive a manual....
Hey scion-lifers... Its a bit embarassing to admit, but in todays modern world of flying machines and microwave popcorn, I never learned to drive a stick. I went from my automatic saturn 4 door, to my two door automatic escort gt, and most recently to my automatic tc.
I want to learn how to drive a stick, but obviously I don't have a manual car, nor do I really know where to start. So if anybodys willing to help a brother out some saturday afternoon and drive around a parking lot or something, ill happily buy the beer afterwards!

Don't sweat it...it's really not that hard. Everytime I taught anybody how to do it, they had the hardest time remembering to push the clutch in when coming to a stop and the car would stall. Once you're moving, it's a snap. Getting going on hills is the other challenge. In no time, it will be second nature to you, though. Good luck!

38,000 and you need a new one? i get about 50-60,000 out my clutch
Yeah its not that hard. I had my dad try to teach me but we would just yell at eachother so one day I took it out on my own and taught myself within a day. I think the best way is have someone ride with you in a parking lot and try teach you the basic steps but then just go on your own.

It's not all that hard to learn, but it takes quite a few starts and stops to get smooth at it.
I guess I'm amazed that driver's training these days doesn't seem to train on manual transmissions. Back 'in the day' driver's training was always done on manual transmission cars with the thought that once you learned on a manual you could drive manual or automatic, but if you learned on an auto, your were kinda stuck...
Guess it's "easier" to train new drivers on automatics.

Thanks everybody for your support (and understanding!). My girlfriend has tried to teach me to drive manual before (she grew up with one), but much the same as doing it with family, it just degenerated into yelling and hurt feelings.
I'll definitely plan on showing up at a few of the upcoming meet n greets- i've been in and out of town all this month so I haven't been to any yet. Anyone know off hand when/where the next one is? I can never keep track.
