Default California Laws

Hey y'all, I just moved to Cali from Pennsylvania a few months back (not missing the 40 degree weather they're having!), and got my tC even more recently. I am not entirely familiar with the laws of the land here in Cali. If I choose to put on this hot new Turbonetics kit, what are the legal ramifications? Anyone here have experience with CARB/smog emissions laws at all? If I put in high-flow cats and clean it up as much as possible, do I have a prayer of passing a Smog test? I realize its a new car and I get exemptions from smogging it for like 5 years (to my understanding), but I want to cover all of the bases. This wouldn't be like a CAI where I could just swap in my stock part in a pinch. Un-turboing is not really an option.

Thanks,

Matt

There is a police squad in San Diego that spots out modified cars. I have a few friends that have tickets for modified exhausts and so forth. You just have to be very careful and would be luck if they don't catch you.

OK

First if you dont want to get hassled by the cops, dont create the attention.
i.e -dont drive like a maniac

As far as smog there is always a way to pass the test as long as you have the $$$$. But if you try to get your tC with the turbonetics kit, visual alone you wont pass.

If you want to be legit buy the TRD supercharger. its CARB approved, it may not have the same power but then your car wont get towed away.

Also, be careful of those random smog check points! They are just like the DUI Checkpoints.

They have those? I may have to rethink this project.
