Default Question? Modified Cars and California, mainly So Cal.?

Hey, I am going to be participating in a crosscountry road trip this summer. My car is stock and this question mainly pertains to something my friend worries about. He drives a decently modded 94 Nissan Altima. He doesn't want to go anywere south of LA because he is afraid of being towed away by the streetracing task force or w/e form of govt control it is out there. I try and tell him they won't care because his car will have out of state tags on it, but he doesn't listen to me. (could be that "real college" vs. community college thing) Anyway, just seeing if any of you CA natives could help me out. I will probably E-mail the DMV to get the official stuff, but I just wanted to see what anyone on the boards knew. Thanks
EDIT: After posting, I realized this could go in a general forum, not just tC owners lounge.

Altimas aren't even on their radar. Don't hang out with the wrong crowd, and there won't be any problems. Oh, and as to streetracing crackdown only happening south of L.A., where did he get that idea? There's a big task force in the Inland Empire (west of LA)-- they pull cars all the time.

dont attend any street races.
dont participate in a street race.
dont drive like youre in a street race.

show the cops your out-of-state drivers license and vehicle registration, then tell them to go suck it.

i have friend who visits from Nevada. he's been pulled over for mods, but never ticketed because he was an out of state visitor.

If your not near any street races, there is nothing to worry about.

their are tons of modded cars all over the I.E. and as long as you dont drive stupid you'll be "good to go", and try to stay away from Ontario Fri& Sat nights b-cuz those street races go on from about 10PM til about 5AM and the street racing task force will pull over some one like every 5 min. seriously.

there's plenty of things to do in SD, you can always go to old town SD, cool stuff....canyon running in Palomar, if he's really bored....take him south of the border and have him see a "donkey dance"

the SD zoo?....hmmm, there's an actual micro brewery inside and he can become a "brew master"

and if all else fails, bribe him tall tales of easy girls from UCSD

It's overcrowded too, and we hate tourists, so please stay away!

Yup there are enough ricey altimas here as it is. If he comes here, we will just tow it and put it in the heap of burning Altimas near the border.

Like someone else said as long as he is not doing anything stupid to get noticed, he'll be alright, plus the out of state tags will help too.
