REMOTE START
I'd steer away from BB (too expensive and hard to trust the techs who do the installs). If they're as good as they say they should've told you why they can't install it. But anyhow since you bought it already, what model did you get?
Search Directed.com for an authorized installer in your area. Maybe they're referring to the bypass module that you need for the remote start. Or, if your car's a m/t, the bypass for that too.
Alarms are pretty much universal but they do require some specific modules in order to install it onto a certain car.
Good luck!

Better take it to an authorized Viper installer then. At least, they're more familiar w/ their products. And if by chance something screws up (knock on wood!) they will be liable. That's what I did when I got my XV791. Peace of mind.
Side note: I'm only worried bec. I read somewhere here in SL that posted a story about some dude's Civic Si that got electronically "totaled" (deemed a fire-hazard). Apparently the CC tech did the most lousy stereo install and totally messed all the Si's wiring...sad thing is CC would only cover the stereo and not the whole car

on n e alarm for a scion tc u need a module to make it remote start, that means one of the keys have to stay in the module inside the car at all times, if u have n e more questions hit me up.Orale.
^part of that is correct Jerry, but there is another bypass that programs it to your ignition so you don't have to leave the key in there and if they try to steal it, the ignition sends a signal to the bypass but since they won't be using the key then the bypass doesn't allow the car to start at all...unless they hot wire the car but that is time to do and if the steering wheel locks then they are f'ed LOL. how do i know this, i used to work for alarms
mista acidDrop is right too. I got my alarm/remote start done today. The module costs 70 bucks and the installer just needs ur key to program everything so there is no need for a key to be in your car. (bypass) .
I got mines done in 4 hours by a guy in MoVal BB, Jayson. I recommend him cuz he does clean installs.
