Temecula/Murrieta is WAY more affordable than San Clemente or Oceanside whether you rent or own. I live in Temecula and I love it.

That's why we're thinking Murrietta is a better choice for us. Difference in monthly rent is like $400 (or more) cheaper to live off the coast.

You know, anything you can tell me about the area would be much appreciated. We've both been to San Clemente, San Diego and up the coast almost to LA, but we're going into this pretty much blind to what the area is really like as far as living there, so any info would be a big help to us. wooooooooooow what a big change...
umm basicly all of oceanside and san clemente is all on the coast. the beaches are beautiful and chill compared to other socal beaches. murrieta and temec however are more in towards the hills/desert portion of socal. it was a growing city(dont get me wrong...its pretty big anyways) but due to the recent economic "crisis" im not sure if its the same....but it just all depends on the area you move into ya know?
Maybe there's somewhere between Murrieta and San Clemente/Oceanside that we can look for aptmnts. We're trying to get as close to the coast as possible without paying a huge amount of rent. Our buget is $1000 to $1200 a month for 2 bdrms.

it all depends where u want to live, temec and murrieta are inland and kinda get hot during the summer, but they are only about an hour away from the beach. fallbrook is cheaper but its more rundown than both temec or murr. oceanside is kinda nice but i hear is getting expensive, also theres alot of marines from camp pendleton that shop and hang out out there. san clemente is very nice but i think thats on the expensive side. the onlything ur gunna find between san clemente and murr. is the ortega mountains and camp pendleton. ur best bet would prolly be fallbrook and possibly murr. altho it might be the same for temec.

shopping wise u will prolly have no problem here, there are plenty of places to shop and a couple nearby malls (like 5 within an hours drive really) then if u really want san diego has lots of stuff too. traffic around here gets pretty busy at 3-7 rush hour, mainly its all the marines from the nearby bases going home for the day, alot of people commute to san diego so its usually slow going in the afternoons. everything in socal is more expensive than where u live so be prepared to dish out a lil more cash than ur used to (its not much but its enuff to notice mainly gas and clothes). as far as the weather goes its almost sunny everyday so no worries there.

if you head more south, rent gets expensive. HOUSING PERIOD gets expensive. i'd stay up in North San Diego/Temecula/Murrieta area.

if you want to be close enough to the beach, try living somewhere off the 78. vista, oceanside, san marcos, escondido. somewhere around there. you got a mall to the west and a mall to the east of the 78. traffic isn't as bad around 3-7 but it's still traffic. i don't know how much rent is everywhere but around that area i said would probably be ideal for the beach and such.

well there are other cities along the way too... theres escondido, carmel mountain, san marcos, vista, then theres oceanside, encanitas. go to google earth and look around these areas to see what its sorta like from a birds eye view. the google earth download is free. real cool too. i dont want to hurt NE1's feelings so i wont give my opinion on any of these cities. but really google earth is the best way to see the different areas, living spaces, shopping, highways, roads and such. hope you find what your looking for.
