Does anyone have the Dr. Isotope short shifter? I have the 50% reduction and 1 1/2" drop. It doesn't feel quite right and I wanted to see someone else's if they have this mod done.

It feels good, clicks into place nicely, it just doesn't want to go into 1st or 2nd easily.

 

If I remember right Cory had it in his old Gen 1 B

 

I literally got mine today, so by the weekend, I hope to have it installed. Do you really need a dredger?

1. Also called dredging machine. any of various powerful machines for dredging up or removing earth, as from the bottom of a river, by means of a scoop, a series of buckets, a suction pipe, or the like.

you need 10mm, 12mm and 13mm, phillips #2, hammer, and elbow grease. Also, a tool to get the end socket cap off the bottom of the stock shifter. (we used a wrench and a hammer).

I don't know about a dredger though.

Paul. I have an extremely hard time downshifting into second gear if i am going over 20 mph... even though second carries you all the way to 45mph @ about 6000rpms (not even redline).. so you'd think around 30-35mph @ about 4500rpms that you would be able to downshift right?

I dunno.. I just have the stock shifter, but to counter my frustration with not being able to get into second above 20 mph (without having to pause a couple second and slowly press into second) I've begun double clutching for second gear now. I'm fine with doing it, and I've actually got fairly good at it, so when you want some hard acceleration out of a turn or some easier engine braking, then I'd say try doing that.

 

and Curtis.. the dremel looks like it's only there to get that washer off without damaging the main frame of the shifter. you can probably pry it off with a flat head or something. no idea to be honest :X

 

Yea, cory who was sitting passenger took off the washer with a flathead. It scratches it up a bit but it's no big deal.

edit: You get a replacement washer as part of the dr. isotope kit so you can beat the hell out of it like cory did. RIP stock washer.

 

I don't have any experience with this but I think if you replace the bushings with the .600" higher ones that will stop the binding. They are available on the DRiso site.

 

I had a similar issue as well where shifting into second was really hard (my drop was 2inches) so i got the .600 cage risers and the shifting went back to being smooth.

 

interesting. We're going to inspect it again on saturday, but maybe i'll have to check it out.

 

Yeah I got his "second" stage package, with the cage risers. So hopefully everything will fair well, and thank you for the responses regarding how to get the washer off!

 

I got it and installed myself, it wasn't too hard. I LOVE it. Even my friends love it and they are jealous of it, haha. They always want to drive my car. It's fine to me, it's just hard to get into reverse sometimes, but not too bad.

 

Had it in for a few weeks. Shifts have gotten a lot better. It is as smooth as a baby's bottom.
