you might be better off asking TRD to get a straight answer 800.688.5912. talk to bob - paul isn't the brightest one there.

I guess it all depends on the definition of idle.

Is idle when your at a dead stop, and rpms are under 1000.

or is it considered idle, as soon as you let go of the gas pedal, and the ECU notices that the throttle voltage is zero.

It can get kind of confusing, lol.

ok im going to go through this 1 more time.... and thats final on my part

1. the trd ecu is flashed with preset air and fuel corrections for idle conditions with the s/c including injector pulse, flow, and fuel % to mix right at idle (this is just for idle @ idle)... if you take out the s/c then you are adding a new variable to the pre set by TRD. You are now adding a variable that is greatly affecting how your air & fuel are mixed which can create a choppy idle ..your either going to rich and bog out or your car wont crank over because theres no fuel to correct the incoming air. The s/c's housing is very small and even the basic t/3 t/4 turbos which are small still have larger housings. so @ idle you are now creating conditions that are greatly altered beyond TRDs ecu flash which is dangerous just at idle.. not saying its going to blow up.. but not anything that should be taken lightly.

2. the FIC is on 24/7 once its on. why? because it controls idle, controls partial throttle, and also WOT... it would be silly to not utalize partial even to go around town because @ idle the turbo has greatly affected TRD's calibrations for a/f correction... if there it no partial throttle correction from the FICs part the ecu will take over and run TRDs a/f mixture... which in any case would still be off...

the fic was made for the purpose of being full standalone but without all of the great bells and whistles the FULL one does. it has alot of functions but not all.. if you think its like the greddy systems were it controls idle and WOT and thats it your wrong... its on 24/7 because partial T was built into it. + it also has new features on the firmware that help you plug in your w/b to it and it will even assist you tunning off the cuff like the ecu does on the narrow band (taken from AEMs site on that info). its on 24/7...its what you use to tune idle, raise idle, control partial T and tune partial T, tune WOT, injector pulse, rate, %, timing... it never takes a break... even at WOT and letting off its still working to correct all the fuel thats just been dumped or leaned out.

TT can give u a basemap. it should work... granted all climates and motors are different...so even ur basemap will need alot of work. but running around on a basemap and thinking the ecu will help is not something i would put my money on...

BTW denny your pics came out FKN SWEEETTTT!!!!!!!!!!!

^I plan to get it tuned asap after the kit is installed. The one thing I was worried about was idle and just getting to the tuner. But the FIC sounds like its the Shiznit

yes it is... but if idle is all your worrying about your not going to know jack until you put it on, run the map, and watch your wideband to see the numbers...but its safe to say your idle MIGHT be choppy

in which any case i have 5 maps u can use.. maybe 6 or 7.. they are some of the same maps ive given to denny.. .they didnt work to well but dennys kit is also not the same kinda of turbo kit the maps were sorta ment for or tuned for.

pete, at idle your throttle flapper is essentially held closed, blowoff valve is open.. how can this "greatly affect" the engine if all the extra air is being dumped to atmosphere anyway?

its not... at idle ur still sucking in air through the TB... how do you think it corrects itself on the DBW when ur idle is very low.... even when ur in idle on a cold start, the butterfly is open a little to let air inside to mix.. if air never passed through how could the engine crank over and keep it alive?.... thats why old cars use bypasses aka IACV (idle air control valves)... DBW doesnt use that anymore because the DBW takes care of it now... thats how most OBD0-OBD2a/b cars with no DBW do it... thats one of the reasons why ppl hate it.. because before u could actually control ur idle very easily through the IACV by the TB... (for ppl who put in aftermarket parts like cams, valves, etc etc between using the rotation of the distributor to control timing and the IACV to control idle it was easy to dial in idle..) now that thats gone and the ecu does most of that for us... we're fuc_ked.

your lucky.. u dont have DBW lmao lol...
