FRS is a dog [opinion]
No kidding. And why even get an S2k, like I said, you can get a 450hp 1998 Dodge Viper for $25-26k. There is no point in comparing used cars to brand new ones and talking about cost in it. People need to understand a little something called Inflation.
Apologies for stepping in here, but considering the range of this thread (and even just the first post), I moved it out of the Drivetrain and Power forum and into the Lounge.
I do need to add just one comment to those complaining the FR-S doesn't have the power of a '69 Hemi Charger: It's a sports car, a driver's car, not a dragster.

Let me give just a hint. I used to have MGs, and they were sports cars. How much power did they have? 58 hp.
Want another example?
I also used to have a little Porsche Speedster...

It had all of 88 hp on a good day.
It's not just about power...

Also, inflation: A general increase in prices and fall in the purchasing value of money. What are you talking about? That's just the loss in value in a used car.
And why haven't you done the same? How much money have you put into your turbo tC? Why pick it over these other fantastical deals? Clearly you see value that isn't in just HP and quarter mile times.

These guys don't get it, Tomas. They'll never hit a track, except maybe once, a drag strip. They just street race and want the speed via a purchase. They talk about mods they'll never do, to achieve speeds they'll never hit. They're not interested in the joy of driving. They just want to say they have the car to do it. It's the same thing to them. Even worse, they hold a car that isn't designed to do what they're looking for accountable for not doing it.

Pretty sure I have one of the highest, if not the highest number of track videos of anyone on this site.
ps....no my tC has not reached $30k into it, just an example.
Well, sir, I was under the impression that most of what you do is drag. Then again, that was my assumption because last I kept up on here was years ago. I'm calling you out for no reason. It's just usually too easy around these parts.
I would hope your tC doesn't have 30k into it. I dropped my tC for my s2ki as soon as I decided I was going to be serious about getting into track. It required the least money into it and had the most reliability with the greatest outcome, and a reasonable initial price.
Nice videos, btw.

. Love the track. Was hooked ever since riding in the PTuning Time Attack tC. I stick with the tC rather moving onto an S2k or something like that because I enjoy having an underdog car. No one expects it to be in their rear view mirror until its to late and I'm hawking them. My greatest overtake today had to have been a Porsche Cayman with an additional $20k into it. Took me about two laps to be on his rear bumper and finally getting the pass. It was awesome! This is why I laugh at all the guys talking about the FR-S having only 200hp. All they think is in terms of stop lights. I can do a crap load with that 200hp.
I agree, being the underdog is fun. I was pretty set on keeping my tC until my supercharger debacle (3 superchargers and an engine later...). it's a great car for what it is. I miss it from time to time.
And people definitely don't get it. It's all image for them. And money definitely doesn't buy speed on a track as you stated. I have huge respect for a driver that doesn't make excuses for his time and doesn't rely on his modified parts to be fast.
Practice practice practice.
Oh yeah, those new caymans are really popular on track for some reason. They sure are pretty. Talked to a couple of guys with them garaged at Infineon. Cool dudes. Cool cars.

This FR-S is going to do fine, man. With all the expectations I hear from people, I'm surprised no one's wrapped one around a light pole yet. But for folks who just want speed, speed, and more speed, it's a Subie engine- people have been building them for years with mixed results on longevity.
A slower car "driven" faster than a "faster" car driven slower....put my money on a faster driver every single time. The very reason why these comparo's where the FR-S is like 1-2 sec slower (with it's OEM tires) at the track than car X (with it's OEM tires), just tells me that a guy with some experience is going to be surprising a lot of people at the track in an 200hp FR-S/BRZ. All he would need would be a set of tires (not even competition), and it's going to be eating up a lot of cars out there.

BTW I fixed a very obvious omission in your post. You're welcome.
It didn't need to be fixed. Those car X OEM tires are already superior to the FR-S/BRZ tires that it needs no mention. I wasn't saying go throw some race tires on the FR-S/BRZ. Just tires that are equivalents to car X OEM tires.
Just like there will be trolls coming in to state their opinion like their life depends on it...case in point. And noobs will continue to think that the best racing is done at a stop light. Kinda hard to be a fail when the dealer is selling these before they even build up an inventory on the lot.
It may have happened before with other cars, but it's the first I've heard happening at a dealership for me. My local Toyota dealer made buyers of the FR-S promise to allow the car to sit on the dealership lot for a week before they were allowed to come pick it up. So other people can actually get a chance to see it. Like I said, some other cars might have had this before, but it's a first time I've ever heard of a dealership doing that. Pretty interesting to think you buy a car, and having to promise not to pick it up till after X amount of time.
TheShirk had to be trolling. "Great write up" could not be seriously said for that.
Also, taking a lesson from the s2000 community - it's a blessing the car costs $25k. It's just expensive enough to keep most of these kids out of buying one. Trust me, just like ap1 s2000s, once they get cheap enough, anyone can afford the "exclusive sports car" and things start to go down hill for how the car is treated.
I don't know if you guys remember this thread or not but... it was some thread that was "to Scion" to tell them what kind of car the community wanted. And unanimously, everyone said
200hp
Light
6spd
LSD
2-door
Funny, isn't it?

Troll
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory,[2] extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response[3] or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.[4] The noun troll may refer to the provocative message itself, as in: "That was an excellent troll you posted."
I'll show you a reason if you come to Willow Springs this weekend. Too bad you're so far away. Go to any track that isn't a straight line and you'll get the same effect.
