You are incorrect.
Go read the policy on Scion's own website:
http://www.scion.com/#/pure-price
I've also read another portion of the policy that clearly states that dealers are free to set their own prices, as long as it is clearly listed in their menus in the showroom.
Here is an example of that line of text:
http://www.atlantascion.com/scion-pure-pricing.aspx
How about another random dealer(Houston) with the exact same text?:
http://smccallscion.com/PurePrice.as...tion=TrimPrice
Or one from Los Angeles? Again, exact same text:
http://www.longoscion.com/pure-price.htm
"Scion's "Pure Price" purchase experience means no haggle, no hassle. The price you pay for all products and services offered equals the dealership's posted and advertised price. Price menus are clearly posted in the dealership showroom for all products and services. Dealers are free to set their own prices."
So, do you smash yourself now? ;)

its been like that. the thing is that if you go to a dealer trying something rediculous, you go to a different dealer. people will most likely be going to scion.com which has scion model's msrp, which doesn't include the tax/title/lic though they list that separately per dealer.
dunno how it is around anywhere else, the dealerships around here are still at the msrp on scion.com. they add on to the price using add ons, like always.
the prices dealers can set themselves and the menu's they mention, is more for services and options.

It seems that was regional order: because ALL Chicagoland & Milwaukee metro area dealers are selling ALL tC autos at 20k mark. The only way to buy one below the 20k mark is; you buy 6 speed or you go out of your way and drive to Central IL buy from one of those dealers.

the base MSRP of a 2012 tC is 20,305. the 6-spd is less because they have always charged more for the automatic tranny.
they have always raised the base MSRP of a scion model every model year. the tC2 wasn't far from 20k when it launched, it was only a matter of time that it would eventually start 20k+
in the descriptions of those cars for much more, you can read that there are options on the car to bump the prices up higher, besides the ones that are RS', and stuff like tax/title or options, which do vary from place to place.

Look at the current 2012 Civic Si for a perfect example. Dealers cannot keep them on the lot and people are happily paying MSRP and more on them. Others who are ordering are waiting months, and probably still paying MSRP.
I've owned 3 Civic Si's over the last 19 years and never paid more than $300 over invoice including the 2000 model that only 15000 were made each of the 2 years they were produced(5k for each of the 3 colors). The FR-S hopes to sell about 1/3 of that amount which means it will be much much more limited in availability.
Hopefully, but this isn't a tC that has been available for years and in much greater numbers.
the current tC has only been available for just over a year not years, lol
but seriously, scion was never about volumes sales, yes they want to sale, but not in major numbers. i don't see why so many think it is gonna be hell to buy one at msrp. are people having to pay over msrp for the few iQs that have gotten out now?
once it is released we will see, one way or the other.
but i still don't think dealers will be trying to work every thousand out of the stock car unless they are trying to force options, regardless of how a different brand operates, it has never worked that way when buying a scion.
if they all were able to get away and charge more for limited availability then you would have to pay more over MSRP for a new RS or maybe even a low production color (like purple and green on the xD for example, made less of those then an RS)

Just over a year, correct, but 2 model years now. It is no longer exclusive was my point. Frankly I'm surprised they don't sell double or triple the amount of tC's history has shown us, especially since the last few years of Civics have been butt ugly in styling.
Honestly I hope to be dead wrong with my statements in my previous post. The dealers most certainly have the potential to ask for more than MSRP since I predict these cars(FR-S/BRZ) won't last a week on the lot, perhaps no more than a couple days if that.
6000-7000 isn't alot of vehicles to fill 50 states and thousand/s of dealerships across the US. There is hope in the fact that the BRZ will help leave some FR-S's for us though. It is still less than the tC sales numbers though.

p.s. PLEASE don't ever again attempt to compare the passion people are having for the FR-S/BRZ to an iQ. That's like comparing a Ferrari to a Honda Fit in the desirability factor.

Ken Gushi most likely testing his GReddy built FR-S for 2012 FD season.

That photo is kind of odd. It appears to be a M/T, but I don't see a clutch. And the paddle shifters are still on the steering wheel. It also has the snow button which I don't think is on the M/T.

I think this car is absolutely brilliant and gorgeous. Most car manufacturers are so worried about what every one else is doing that you run into the problem where most cars look alike, just a different badge. This cars represents automotive beauty and handling. I think this makes one of the most well balanced cars on the market to date.

something that was said at the NAIAS
BeSpoke Infotainment Audio System
Scion also announced that its 2013 FR-S will be the first car to offer a connected infotainment audio system called BeSpoke, powered by Pioneer’s Zypr™. Scion’s BeSpoke aims to offer a higher level of connectivity with features that drivers have been asking for such as access to a wide variety of personalized content and services.
“Beginning last year, all Scion models come standard with Bluetooth® Hands-Free and HD Radio™ Technology,” said Jack Hollis, Vice President Scion. “Scion’s new BeSpoke system will take in-car technology to the next level, offering owners the ability to be more connected.”
