Sudden Unintended Acceleration causes 2 accidents within 3 days
I bought a 2012 Scion IQ with 160K miles in Feb. 2020. On July 4, 2020, I stopped in at a local sandwich shop and parked my car normally. I came back out, started my car, and put it in reverse. All of sudden, the car accelerated, I stomped on the brakes to no avail, and the only thing that stopped my car was me crashing into a car behind me. I couldn't figure out what had happened. On July 7, 2020, I was behind another car waiting to pull into a parking space, as I was inching into the parking space, my car accelerated suddenly. The brakes did not work again, and I slammed my car into a concrete pole which was the only reason my car stopped moving forward. Now, my car is totaled.
I went online to research this topic, to my surprise it's call "Sudden Unintended Acceleration (SUA)". There was a recall on older Toyotas before 2010 but no known problem for Scion iQ. In addition, my check engine light came on along with traction control off light about 2 weeks ago.
The import car mechanic said my catalytic converter was clogged and replaced it with a new OEM part. The car never had this problem before and it drove fine with with engine light and traction light on. I filed a complaint with the NHTSA in the U.S. this morning.
I hope and pray someone can help with this disaster.
