the old IS could fit the 430 engine in it anyway. A few minor motor mount issues aside an easy fit. plus you LOSE 2lb in the swap.(from an Iron 6cyl block to an Aluminun

Some channel made the "IS 430" a few years ago, F*CKING SICK.

meh, German>Japanese....today, tommorow, forever

It might be as fast, if not ever so slightly faster, in the straight line, but I'm know the M3 will murder it in the twisties....obviously...its German

Yeah everyone knows the Japanese don't have any touge, so why would their cars be any good at cornering.

I never said it sucked at cornering. Heck, it could be better than the Evo at cornering. But the ///M3 will always be better. If the IS is better, BMW will just rework it and make it better, as per usual.

Knowing Lexus, you probably wont be able to turn off the VSC, and another myriad of 'I cant have fun while driving this even though it has so much power' features...

well being a lexus owner i would like to see this materialize, however the M3 is the car to beat, cars have been trying to emulate and surpass the m3 for years, it goes all the way back to the 2002 model. Anyway lexus would really need to go to the parts bin on this one, the suspension on the m3 is very stiff, and the car does ride like its on rails.
The nice thing is that on the lexus forums there are guys running the older is300 and have had alot of success adding go fast parts and have made that car into a real contender. as with all cars, performance or not, the real test is the market support it will recive from the tuner companies.
Toyota made one mistake with the current IS, the 350 was not released in manual, so they are selling more 250's currently then 350's. SO hopefully if this does happen (m3 killer) they will do it right and release it in manual.

^ You Wish.
It's true that in twisties the M3 "currently" can win, however good lucky driving it home afterwards.
Its pure comedy how no one gets surprised when the M3 breaks down like it was built to break @ specified intervals... There's no murder when the M3 = committing suicide.

LOL, yeah.......they have really poor reliablity, and they are expensive to maintain, 250.00 for an oil change or something like that. You have to use BMW oil from what i have heard.

Honestly, i dont think people shop the lexus brand for performance value, sadly. BMW has always been involved with motorsports, so it has a dual market, luxury and motorsports. Toyota i think is smart not getting into it with the germans....not saying they would loose, becasue its not about that, its about retaining market share, its a huge gamble for a car company to venture out into high performance, and since lexus is toyotas "luxury" market, i think toyota would have better luck selling any high performance car as a toyota. Bring back the supra would be a great start.

We're forgetting that the BMW is a machine you must take care of. Not a boring, run of the mill, I'll be there for you no matter how you treat me, Lexus.

Kilo, the reliability of that machine isn't that bad.

Just to clarify everything for everyone, the update on the new lexus IS500, is that the car will be likely to have a 5.0 liter V8 motor based from the Lexus LS600h, which will be a hybrid 5.0 liter v8. It is rumored to be over 400 hp, and will compete with the upcoming BMW M3, which will move from the 333hp 3.3 liter inline six, to a 4.0 liter 400 hp v8.

yeah, you are right about taking care of them........like all cars.
my mother had an 05 750 and the entire electrical system crapped out while she was driving glitch with the i-drive system apparently.......the car basically died/ shut off on the fwy at about 60 mph.....anyway it was covered under warranty, but i guess it could happen to anyone.
I love BMW's dont get me wrong, enough that when i sell my Tc im looking to buy either a 04 M3 or g35/350z (but dot get me started about why im driving a Tc) ......i have not made up my mind. But what i have seen from personal experinces when something goes wrong with bmw's it goes wrong in a serious way. Vw's too.

Thats a technicality IMO, with the 7 series, they come up with something new, and throw it right into the 7, so its reliability isn't as high as the other models.

All manufacturers have their problems, unfortunately for BMW, VeeDub, and Mitsu, they weren't few and far inbetween.
