Official 2011 Scion tC Thread (2nd gen)
I definitely like the idea of the backseats having way more space than the 1st gen tC. doors are sick! 3 speakers??? awesome! Glad to see that they didn't get rid of the folding backseats either.
Also, it's way to early to see what can be done with it. If anything, I say wait a few months and check back to se progress on body kits and such...
If this bad boy would've been out by the time I bought my second gen xB, I would not know where to go...

Pics moved to different hosting thanks to stupid photobucket limits.
Hehe... as of posting these pics just now, I've used about 4.3 GB of my 1500 GB of available bandwidth via godaddy... let's see where this goes.
EDIT: Oh wait... that 4.3 GB was for all of last month. We start a new month today! Full 1500 GB available.

This thing is emblematic of the bean counting, decotenting and cheapening that got Toyota in to the predicament they are in now.
The parts bin special interior looks really, really cheap. Look at all that rock hard plastic. I know it's a cheap car, but a Hyundai Accent has more soft touch stuff in it. Did I say it looks cheap? On the other hand, I'm sure all this cheap plastic that is designed to be assembled as cheaply as possible won't rattle at all like my old TC did….
Oooohweeee, they put in a thick steering wheel with a flat bottom like in a GTI! And the door panel has SIX speakers… just like Billy Bob's custom Grand Am with the kicker box in the trunk! I just hope I can get a "Type R" seatbelt pad that matches the stupid design on the seats. Speaking of the seats, look at those HUGE side bolsters! They will sure keep me in place when I'm winning races against STI's, Z's, EVO's and M3's. I just hope my girlfriend is comfortable when she's driving it (she's had a few too many Old Milwaukee's if you know what I'm saying)
The fact the got rid of the auto up/down passenger side window tells you all you need to know. Same with the fact they got rid of the glass wind deflector on the sunroof and got rid of the upper compartment on the center console. After milking the gen 1 TC for two years too long, Toyota does a halfassed redesign with the intention of squeezing every possible penny of profit out of a tired platform. You know who use to be the pro at that…. GM. Maybe there is something to the rumor I heard that the next RS series is going to be called the "Z24".
The six speed and bigger engine should have been added to the TC as soon as it went in to the Toyota parts bin. I'm sure makes the car drive a bit better and the six speed will make a huge difference on the highway, but it's too little too late. It's nice, but not compelling. Now that the world at large is wise to the fact that Toyota's reputation of superior reliability was an illusion, why would someone buy this instead of a Civic SI…. or a Kia Koup. The only thing this has going for it is the Scion "lifestyle"….
So in short, I'm disapointed. The FT-86 is the last hope for Toyota.

YES... FINALLY. Other people are starting to get out of the fanboy mentality. The iQ is interesting. . . but the front is definitely not as nice as the euro/asian market versions. The interior is impressive. . . but a car as niche as the iQ is not going to keep the division afloat. Scion isn't even international, nor does even account for a significant number of sales for TMC, so I have no idea where this theory of (they want to sell as many cars as possible idea keeps coming up).
Sales went DOWN 49% in 2009, and I doubt they will get better, with the slow selling xD, the mediocre xB2, and now the defiled tC. iQ numbers will be even less, since it will likely compete directly with the Yaris (PS, competing with your own in-house brands, bad idea). Scion only sold 58,000 cars in 2009 from over 100,000 the year before. Here's a link
http://topnews.us/content/214906-sci...vice-president.
I really can't see things improving. I hope I'm wrong!
Obvious some people don't like it. Fine... we get it. Let Scion worry about it if it doesn't sell.
Im pretty skeptical about this design Ill be honest, but man... its like the Rambo Movies... the one after is even more worse than the other, I mean... come on, The way I see it, this is just a boxy tC....
Rounded xA > Sharp-edged xD
Boxy xB > Rounded xB2 , and now :
Sexy lines "Rounded" tC > Flat-boring-Boxy tC
COME ON!!!! its 2010 for Pete sakes... This is what Scion should've produced back in 2008, not wait 6 years for this, We had a Hunger and Scion did not provide us with enough to satisfy...
I'm sorry But Over here in PR, Cars' prices are jacked up as it is... I paid 22k for my tC back in 06, (when it was 16K for you guys) soooo.... if this one starts @ 18k as rumored... it will be 24-25K for a scion tC... which In my opinion is just crap....
For that price I'd much rather drop it in a New Gen'Coupe, my friend paid 25k for his, and that thing feels nice, by far it is not a FAAAAAAST car, but you can feel its got potential, and it looks & feels good, its not a "Revenge of the Clones" thing... Plus its RWD!!!!!!
A Platform already thought(by me) to be extint.
OR Damn it all to hell and buy a FT-86... = Secks on wheels!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the FT-86 supposed to start within 5k of the TC? That's one reason it's being compared to the TC.
The other reason is that the idea of the FT-86 is such a perfect fit for what the Scion brand SHOULD be.
What IS the Scion brand and what IS the TC really?
A sporty LOOKING car that's cheap? A cheap car you can customize with footwell lights? A car that makes you part of some unique club? The FT-86 as the Scion TC would actually deliver on the "sporty" promise of the Scion marketing. That's why we compare them.

Gen1 was something special. It was an incredible deal, unmatched in driving or features when it came out (NOTHING touched it for less than $16k), and the interior was actually pretty good for something at that price. Digital HVAC. Aluminum temperature ****. Nice textured plastic surfaces (ok, that are a b!tch to clean). Little features like the "conversation seating" that showed quite a bit of thought had gone into it. Auto up/down windows for both the driver and passenger. It offered a panoramic sunroof, alloys and other things that you couldn't get with cars that cost thousands more.
But this... this seems evolutionary at best. It's evident that Product Managers said "ok, we need a new skin, slightly better engine, 6sp and traction control, what do we need to give up in order to hit our target price point? Digital HVAC controls? Gone. Waterfall interior? Gone. Premium materials like the Alu temperature ****? Gone. Overall interior? Dumbed down."
I just can't help thinking that Toyota/Scion keeps listening to it's consumers TOO MUCH and trying to please everyone and pleasing no one in the process. Certain consumers (probably not the target audience to begin with) complained that the original xB was too small for families, older people, and businesses, so Scion made the xB bigger, fatter, softer and in the process ruined what the xB was supposed to be. Now I can only imagine that Scion execs kept hearing "more powerful engine, 6sp, traction control, 18s, more rear headroom and keep the price the same", and so that's what they're giving us (although I'd be surprised if the price doesn't go up by at least $1,000 anyway). A vehicle that has been dumbed down to hit a few specifics but overall giving us a vehicle that was in no way as good as the one it replaces...
nothing special, surprising to make me want to jump out and buy it, the original tC is much better
The proportions on this thing is a disaster
I'll just have to keep staring at the lines of the first gen body

IMO, that is the biggest problem here... not that so many vocal people here don't like it. There just isn't anything "WOW" about it, like I have said before. Even those that seem to be OK with it or like it really don't seem to be overly impressed with any one part of it.
And lastly, flat out, Hyundai/Kia is eating Toyota/Scion's lunch as far as overall exterior designs go. Compare the Gen2 tC with the following, primarily for design language and ask yourself which is overall a more appealing package?

And I hate to say it, but even the Koup looks even better than the revised tC, particularly on the inside:

You guys are something else... Really...
You speak as if money can be thrown out the window for endless "upgrades" and engineering costs, yet if they raised the prices you would complain about that as well. In this economy, I am sure they did the best they could do given the time and funds they have. If you prefer the old version, keep yours or buy it. No one is FORCING you to upgrade to the new model. If another brand suits you, go for it. I think the recent changes (other than a few things here and there) have all been great. The IQ will do extremely well, I think, compared to Smart. The new tC is improved for sure, along with most of the xB2, mostly interior (some stuff I don't like, but that is personal taste).
You like them or you don't.
These new models will SELL. They don't care about YOU, they care about how much money they can make as a whole. They do excellent upgrades on the tC for example, newer engine, transmission, etc... It costs money. They will cut corners where they can and try to balance it out without raising prices. This is difficult to do without ____ing people off, but they are decisions that have to be made. With enough positive/negative response, they can adjust from there with later models.
Just watch though... These new models will sell like hotcakes. Maybe not in crazy numbers due to the economy, but good none-the-less.
And this is to nobody specifically, and I am trying to be civil about this... But some of the stuff I have read about the new styles are driving me nuts. It's fine to dislike something, but don't come across like your opinion is fact.
/end rant.

There's no way you can compare the tC with an Optima. Optima is a mid-sized sedan (Camry, Fusion, etc). If you're going to compare the tC to anything from Kia, it has to be the Forte Koup.
