Official 2011 Scion tC Thread (2nd gen)
See my thing is that of course they are going to make a whole new car. But this thing is just ugly. And for that price, you don't seem to be getting that value a person used to get. As an xB guy, I didn't want the new tC to look like the 1st gen, but I was hoping for something the least bit appealing.
That's a for sure, you know they will have some re-badge TRD stuff out for it, they already have a big brake kit for it, I'm sure there will be a cold air intake, oil caps, battery tie downs, front strut bar, rear sway bar, brake pads, wheels, shift *****, I'm sure a few more things. I seriously doubt they will be producing a SC kit for it after the nightmare experiences with the 1st gen one, I doubt there is room for a roots style SC back there, that's the only one that would make sense at this point.
Shoot me now!
Scion might as well close their doors. The 1st Gen tC was dated looking when it first came out and now this ridiculous mixture of show car and last years model!
Toyota can't help but play it safe. They can't get it out of their corporate culture. Scion was the opportunity for them to "get wild" and they have chickened out mid stream. I can't see this new tC selling as well as the last one.
Scion....remember the first xB? Be bold, be innovative, ok?

i waited as long as i could to comment on this to avoid my initial disappointment of the new tc, but i see no hope for it.
toyota just doesnt understand how to build an interesting car. the new scions are just going to end up as overweight uninspiring camrys that only people concerned with "reliability" and what park they need to drop their kids off at soccer practice would even bother driving one. seriously how could they manage to make a fat car fatter?
major problems i see with it at the moment:
1. weight.
2. weight.
3. its freakin fat!
4. electric steering=fail
5. the rear looks like they were about to design some fenders and then ran out of paper.
6. its heavy
7. still no proper seats
8. no lsd but i guess thats not a problem for taking kids to soccer
9. no sun extenders on the visors
10. maybe ill finish tomorrow but im tired
i guess even scion realizes they screwed up since they didnt even bother showing their pitiful excuse for a car at the denver auto show this week. grrrr!!!!!!!

This car is one of the most epic fails in recent memory. Toyota has officially screwed the pooch on this. I also bet that most of the weight gain is in the front, which makes it so much worse. With their recent history, I;m not holding out any hope in the ft-86 either. I know that it has potential, but toyota will probably screw it up.
I mean there is a car out now that is a coupe, has a v6 with 305 hp (0-60 in 5.1 sec), is heavier, is bigger on the inside, and gets BETTER MPGs!! WTF toyota?? true it is more expensive, but a small coupe with 180 hp getting worse gas mileage than a large coupe with 305???
My next car will not be a toyota, you can believe me on that.

I like the new version. It is not a radical departure from the current one, but when they did that to the xB - they got tons of complaints too.
Since we are only looking at pictures - the real truth comes in driving it. I didn't like the looks of either the xD or the 2nd gen xB, but after driving them - I really like them. They had lots of quality improvements and handled the road great in stock form.
I understand being edgy - but don't forget the TC thrived because it was 10-13k cheaper than the Celica GTS (which had 180hp).
I think they could have thrown in some LED taillghts and even LED DRLs to show up Audi, but overall they are not going to throw away a great coupe base, nor would they outprice their target market with an FT-86
let's all look foward to driving one - then we can really comment on how they did.

What? The GTS was $20,100 in 2005.
I get the feeling Scion is gonna be the new "it" car for moms who want to feel young again. Not such bad thing if they're hot moms though.
But as far as aftermarket companies go, I think they're not gonna be making parts for this car if that turns out to be the demographic. I'm not sure 34 year old Ashley would enjoy riding on Tein coilovers.

^^^^that statment makes no sense. I see grandma's and moms driving the tC1 as it is. and I can go back further to the Celica. same thing. I saw a New Camaro with a pink baby seat in the back. so that comment is nitpicking nonsense.
let's examine aftermarket...there is hardly anything for the any of the new Scions. I feel there will be more for the tC2 just because of it's coupe roots. I japan let's examine their versions....xD (New Ist) has a little more than stateside, but overall a better looking car than our xD. i really dislike it's front bumper. it's out of proportion to the bodylines. Rumion (xB2) has an okay amount of stuff but seems unpopular. I saw one modded new Ist of the two I saw and one modded Rumion of the 3 I saw.

actually we can debate this forever but here is the real problem they missed the mark because the reality is this car is getting no push.. read the auto press and will see nobody is talking it up and eagerly awaiting this car
^i've noticed the same thing. on this one website i look at for really nice cars and wallpapers. they mentioned the iQ and had photos of its stock and 5axis form but only just mentioned the new tC and had only the photos of the 5axis tC, not one of it stock.
i waited as long as i could to comment on this to avoid my initial disappointment of the new tc, but i see no hope for it.
