The salt air down there might be affecting your eyes on here... lol :D

They probably lost money on me too, since I was looking at things like the Rav4 and CRV before I bought my xB1. It did everything I wanted without the extra size and weight, 4WD systems, etc.

Scion's whole problem is the decided to focus on "cool" instead of focusing on the Product. Listening to the focus groups didn't make the xB2 cool and neither did the styling. Putting the gauges in a weird spot does not make a car cool or edgy.
Now add in that their marketing has been abysmal - "Scion - for people that try too hard"
"cool" does not last - like any other trend, Scion has risen, peaked and is now fading away. They need good product to make it stay. You know, the same things everyone else says - RWD tC replacement and new version of the original xB. Cars that would be cool on their own merits.

Toyota is a mainstream capitalist company. You're naive if you believe they care about "cool" - they just want your $$$. They've got tools in suits whose paychecks depend upon reading and playing you young ones like a fish.
Remember that Scion's purpose was a calulated effort by old people like me to establish brand loyality in a demographic they hoped would revive a mortibund company stuck with Oldsmobile buyers.
The tools seeded "buzz" among youn'uns. It worked - in 2004! But once something new becomes mainstream it automatically loses the very edge that drove it (think hip hop. think skateboarding. think burning man). That's what they're stuck with. Can't fight the tide: Scion's image is on the downslide.
Old folks can be cool and young ones dorky. Stop being programmed. And stop waiting for a company to define your passion with the latest model.
Basically anybody secure with themselves will buy the car they want (what they can afford as well) and mod it the way they want it.
Anybody who needs to have the latest and greatest to keep up with the jones' will buy what they are told the jones' are buying or would buy
...I will not date or marry anybody from this second group-I am not the latest or greatest-I am just me (weird that everybody thinks I should drive a great big honkin' truck)

At first Scion had exact duplicates( save for where the steering wheels was) and now the cars are different from the japanese brethren even if they look similar. I believe that is what caught young peoples eye. let's see. the xB2 and Rumion have different front and rear clips. the xD and Ist have different front and rear clips. The tC will be Japan inly soon as the Celica with most likely better( tunability) engine options and a better looking exterior. 5Axis setup the tC replacement here with the Fuse and I thought they also designed the T2B.
Hey Toyota! wanna get Scion rolling again? bring the QNC bB to the U.S. and just leave it neamed the bB. Or better yet. get rid of the Sienna and just sell the Estima here. peeps will buy it regardless of what the name is. It's a Toyota man. It will bring costs down and simplify your lineup. I think it would work...

I remember reading articles during the first year or two of the Scion life cycle talking about older people buying the xB because it was practical, comfortable, and could haul a lot of stuff.
I test drove a new xB and was impressed by the room and the drive. But when I got out, I found myself wishing it was the 1st generation. The car seems to not be sure what it wants to be. It certainly doesn't make the same "what the heck is that" impression that the original one did.
Honestly, I think the sales are down because the novelty has worn off and there are so many other options in the class these days.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the Nissan Cube, which is what the new xB should have been.

We'll see, if the vehicle revealed in November is an accurate rendition of the 3rd generation Cube. While the Cube is an interesting vehicle, it is underpowered by even xB standards. Up the power to 100 or so and keep the weight under control and they'll have a winner.
Here is another look at what may be Scion's toughest competition:

rumor has it this is might be coming up the line for Scion.
I don't know any trendy kids that would buy this car. can't take your friends in it! I mean, the tC is the best selling Scion in Chicago. So I don't see that as a success.

this should be the next Scion.

look at this dash layout minus all the woodgrain. that's an add-on

light up speakers and whatnot. right up Scions alley.
so much better potential. there's barely any aftermarket for the current Scions both here and from Japan.

i say bring back the 1st gen, give it a slightly stiffer frame and throw in the option for AWD and standard manual.
hell, make my goal a bit easier and throw a 2GRFE and make that sucker AWD on top of that...
wouldn't hurt to try a DIESEL hybrid for once *cough cough, hint hint toyota... insane mileage... hello?!* and maybe another option for an all electric xB whichout having to spend nearly $100k for some guy to convert it that way.

Nissan's already promoting the Denki Cube:

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/19/n...nd-denki-cube/

By mid-2009, Nissan plans to cover the entire gamut of the automotive spectrum, ranging from the compact Cube to the supercar-fighting GT-R. That's the word from Nissan this morning as they announced that the new Cube will come to the US market next year to fill the void left behind by the dearly departed first gen Scion xB. For now, Nissan is only showing off the current gen Cube that's available in Japan along with the Denki Cube. The Denki is the lithium ion battery-powered version that Nissan is testing and hopes to bring to market early in the next decade.
