Scion xB Unleashed in Chicago BODYKIT + WHEELS!
Here's the problem that I have with the market research:
You are essentially asking people who don't like the car to tell you what you can change to make them want one.
What these companies dont conceptualize is that they are asking people to look at a car, and then describe a different car altogother.
Now, if you have a vehicle (like the xB) that already sells very well- you should ask people who DO like the car, but are hesitant to buy one, what would make them buy this car. Don't ask some idiot who already wants a Ford Fusion, and thinks that the xB is some box of crap.
Scion is not going to pickup the rest of the market they missed with these cars...they're going to get a different market altogether (like the idiot who already wants a Ford fusion).
Scion is going to have to change their marketing altogether now...
Images of snowboards, urban environments, and import nights -will now be replaced with images of grocery bags, school soccer games, and PTO meetings.
Add a spare tire holder to the ___ end of the new xB, and it is indistinguishable from a RAV4 from behind-5axis or not.
I think the new xB is a great car, and it will sell.
But it's not the box-on-wheels that I love. I've had other cars that I've enjoyed owning, but no other car gives me the same feeling as my little box does. Over 3 years, and I still turn around and look at it with a smile sometimes. I think it's possibly the greatest little underpowered box on wheels ever! I seriously mourn the xB. .
..and it is odd that they dropped the name 'xA' for a car that looks almost the same, and kept 'xB' for a thing that looks totally different.
My xB is about to turn 4years old, and has 80k on it. I had already decided to keep it for at least 5 years. But knowing that it's paid off and the new xB was coming, I really started to ponder the thought. I had already seen it as what I believed was stock, and felt it was a little too vw-ish for me-but I decide to wait and see the 5axis body lines. Not a huge change for me from the stock one. (Turns out that the new'xB' that I saw was slightly different from the stock and 5axis models. Maybe something that got altered for production?).
No thanks, I'll keep my bB 'til it dies. ..and when it does, I may have to look elsewhere for another car that I can enjoy as much.
Hear that Nissan?? *cough*cube*cough*.

I hope the gas tank is bigger too.
It's bad enough that it'll cost more, and will be more expensive to drive. Hopefully people wont have to stop more often also.
...oh nevermind. Current xB drivers wont be the ones buying this minivan meets suv meets camry meets rav4's backside thing anyways.
I think alot of Honda minivan's, if they could speak, would say:
"Wannabes. Copy my front bumper, huh? Now you're ugly and useless compared to me. HA!".

As a stock car, the new model is just not as distinguishable as the 1st gen. It needs that whole kit in order to turn heads. Everyone keeps saying they would buy it with that kit, but what about just stock. Like someone above said, most cars look good lowered with kit and wheels. Im afraid to ask the price the 5axis version.

i don't remember there being this much controversy about a cars looks since ... . oh yeah when the first xB launched!
people, it's all good. it was bound to change. did you really think scion would keep selling the same ol box on wheels? heck no! we're in it to stay changing, scion is revolutionary.
i love the new box. i love the old box. i just plain ol love scion! i love the xa, xb1, xd, xb2, tc. hell i love the t2b, the fuse, the dj car, that lime green tC, i love stock xb's and modded xA's.
you don't have to buy a new one. we'll still do car shows and recognize your car as well as the new one.
polarized styling = style that evokes emotion. not necessarily good or bad, but withdrawing a response. that is scions styling idea. i think they have done a good job accomplishing their goals.

I think the outside of it is a nice step forward, but I never liked the boxy/econo look of the xB. I completely hate the interior however. The wheel is at a 'semi' level instead of a coupe level, the seats sit you upwards like a truck, and the dash is in the middle of the car again! WTF?
I love the Civic's edgy look outside, but there dash is horrible... you can't see the upper part at all because it is blocked by the wheel and your hand. How did that ever make it past basic testing? Same thing on the this box. The interior is where you'd live and it is terrible.

I like the new gen. xB. More power, room and comfort; yet still very much unique and incorporates Fuse styling into a very usable and versatile package. I agree with Shorberg that after 3 years change was necessary and desirable to keep Scion fresh and "revolutionary". I also love all Scions, old designs and new. I still love my xA as much as ever, and plan on keeping it for a long time, but my wife and I like the new xB enough to give it serious consideration to replace her car when it comes out later this year!
The folks that think it looks like a HHR? What are they smoking? I don't want any, that's for sure.
Just because it's a larger engine doesn't necessarily mean poorer fuel economy. It will have a different transmission too, which means that there are different gear ratios, and could also be a taller final drive ratio (with more power, you don't need a short final drive ratio to get moving)
I would welcome the extra width (I can't put my golf clubs into the 06 xB with the seats up) and extra room for luggage. The current xB has problems with luggage space and more than two people.
If my Maxima dies before we're ready to get a truck (different story), I'd consider the new xB.

I Guess All Good Things Must Come To A END. I'm Sure Glad I Purchased The 4.0
Instead Of Waiting For The New XB
Scion WTF Were You Thinking
Good Luck With Selling Them But Like PT Barnum Once Said A Sucker Is Born Every Second
So I Can Smack You

I think new XB is pretty nice. I like my first one better though.
