I don't like it. It looks too big to be a Scion. When I think Scion, I think compact or subcompact cars. That xB looks like a Jeep. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I do think the bigger engine would be a good idea, but keep the exterior looking like an xB, not a SUV.

Hmmm, everybody might be reading too much into the "style" of this mule. My bet is that they're just testing a powertrain/platform with a body that has been "chopped to fit".

I don't think we've seen the new "xB's" style yet.

I'll bet the new xB will be substancially bigger(probably not that big) than the current one

This is just a mule.

Who knows what the final shape will be.
I hope that Toyota realises that the xB is the beetle of the 21st century and has a very loyal following because it is a Scion icon much more than the tc or xa.

Hopefully they will get it right

Hey guys, remember that isn't the real body that they are using... it is a modified xB body used to test the next platform. Not only that, it is disguised to make it harder to tell... so there is fake crap all over it designed to confuse anyone that is looking at it.

Exactly. I'd guess this is just a shell for the new powertrain, etc. as well.

I'm glad I bought my 2005 xB and won't be replacing it so I'm not terribly concerned about the 2008 model.

Yeah, manufacturers do that all the time, chop up a current bodystyle to fit onto a new chassis testbed...
I am curious how the new styling will work on those dimensions, because the proportions of the mule look rather terrble.

Does anyone else think that Toyota seems to be losing focus on what the Scion mission was supposed to be, namely a hotbed for fresh youth orientated concepts? The XA/XB/TC line was so original it captured a whole cross section of interest, but with the "streamlining" of the 06 Xa, the new Bb "PT Cruiser", and the looks of this- seems Toyota wants to milk the line as just an entry level toyota car... I did buy an 06 Xa, and I appreciated the upgraded features, but it took a while to warm up to the more conventional styling- if the new Xb is just a cheap big SUV, I think the interest in the Scion brand will wane in the long run.

Ahhh! I'd better buy my xB soon so I don't have even a remote possibility of being stuck with THAT. Of course, it is just a fake shell, but...

Interesting. About a foot longer, a few inches wider, I wonder if it was made by elves?

There's already a longer xB. It's called the Matrix. I bought the xB instead because it's the smallest vehicle that I could easily load with a bike. But that larger hood---I wonder if it'll fit the Z06 LS7. Ummm, 505hp.

wasn't the xB concept at the auto shows carrying a 2.4L engine like the one in the tC? that could explain the longer nose??
