actually all of the replacements were supposed to be using the same engine as the tC (right?). so they are gonna need more engine room. its cramped as it is in there for tCs and you see how our hood is.

yeah i hope thats not going to be it. that's pretty gross.

if any larger engine should go in there i'd think it'd be the 1.8L from matrix/corolla.

i would assume that the new xB will be based on the just released bB. and, that bB has a longer wheelbase than the xB - but shorter in overall length. i'm guessing it's the longer wheelbase and the body cladding that is throwing off the proportions of the whole thing -- that, and the much larger front end.
all i know is, if the new xB looks like this -- i'll take it

here's the latest-
www.jalopnik.com is reporting
The word came down late last year (from high atop Mt. Gossip): The next-generation Scion xB would be built on the Corolla platform, and be longer and larger on the inside than the current model. Now, The Car Connection offers what could be the first spy shot of the new model, which confirms the li’l van’s lengthier comportment. The new dimensions give it an almost Land Rover LR3-like profile. Check out that schnoz — it almost looks like they’re smuggling a V8 past border security.
so, to the person who before mentioned the matrix -- it just might be the fate of the xB

Anyone else notice that those are AZ plates? Why are they testing here? Could it be the rest of the country is too full of snow or what? I think I may recognize this plaza in downtown Tempe, however there are a million small business plazas like this in Phoenix.

Toyota has a Test Center/Track in Arizona. Not sure of the exact location.

that has to be a hoax, looks like a jeep cheroke and a range rover had a love chile with an xB, a bad photoshop or possibly some bad experiments with car chopping.

That's a redesign? You'd think after the car being out for almost 10 years, in japan in and in the US, they would do a huge overhaul.

i am going to go with that yes they are testing a larger engine.. but also they are testing out a new platform design but with the old body style.. I've seen that a lot in detroit with test mules.. i don't think it's going to look like that.. they are just messing with people..

Is that RHD with clear rear windows?

I second the test mule comments...

It looks like it gained an inch or so in ground clearance.

I agree, it's probably a powertrain mule. However, it could be a decoy. And if it is a decoy, it's done it's job.

Did you mean to put "American" in quotes.......or "typical"? I don't get the emphasis on "American" but I do get the emphasis on "typical". I'm just trying to understand your point.

I hope it is a little bigger. Not much, just enough to fit a bigger engine and little more storage in the back. That's all. Even the Corolla engine would be an improvement over the the current engine.

Maybe we're all dupes in Toyota's test-marketing plan: Let slip a photo of a test mule, whether it be for the body shape or drivetrain, and see what the xB fanbase thinks of it.

That's my conspiracy theory for the day.

I see that supposed '08 car as a natural evolution of the xB, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. I like the box I have right now very much, thank you.

Personally, I don't want more power or a bigger engine. If they can give me those things with better fuel economy, maybe, but they cost money and usually suck more fuel.
If I get a 6th gear and quieter highway ride, I'll take it.

I also don't want a bigger car. I like the ease of maneuvering the box as-is, and I have plenty of interior room. Maybe more hip room would be nice, though.

Oh, and it looks like all '08s will be Camo!
