Spied: 2008 Scion xB Test Mule
Test mules always look bad. Well most of the time. Car might not look anything close to this. Hopefully they won't go with the new Japan xB styling. I liked it initially but I'm going to pass.
lets just hope that the japanese Bb will hit our market instead of extended version of the xB. Thumbs down to this version. It makes me yak. The only time i would want to see the xB in a stretch mode is a well done modified limo... like the one they usually show in the scion.com gallery.

all i know is, if the new xB looks like this -- i'll take it

Good lord...
I just bought an 06 xB... If this is what the future model is going to look like, im going to trade in mine 06 for the last year of the "current" body.... whihc i think is 07.... that thing is ugly as hell... one of the reasons i bought it was because of how short it is - i never have trouble finding parking in manhattan with it!
I think everyone is reading WAY to much into the styling aspect of the pic. Havent you guys ever seen a test mule before? I remember spy shots of the new Mustang that still had most of the 1994-1995 body panels on it.
As others have said, I also heard we will be seeing the 2.4 in the next generation xB.

i wouldnt mind the longer xB, i have trouble hauling all my constructon stuff around in mine as it is,
plus with the longer front end i could finally reach my goal of stuffing that LT1 that i have sitting in my garage in it
poor lil box i realy hope they reconsider making it the same size and change the out side shape.
i hope they keep the same 1.5 engin in there cuz what s the point of making a bigger engin that eats more gas if you can only go 65 mph on the highway lol i never seemed 2 understand that
i guess some people just don t get it

Some of you guys are just looking at the picture and not reading anything else. This is a TEST MULE! This is the test mule for the EVO X.

All they do is chop up the current car to test out a new platform/engine. THIS IS NOT THE REDESIGNED xB!!!

Kinda resembles the new Jeep Commander, just lowered...
I hope it is a little bigger. Not much, just enough to fit a bigger engine and little more storage in the back. That's all. Even the Corolla engine would be an improvement over the the current engine.

Keep in mind that these are test shots of a TEST MULE. It appears to me that a current xB body has been modified to accomidate a longer chassis as well as to get an idea for interior lay out. I'd lay money down today that the final production vehicle looks significantly different than what we see in this one picture.
Reasons behind my comments:
Look at the wheel wells. It is obvious that this is no where near what the finished product will look like. They took and xB, tacked on the extra inches they needed based on engineers designs and slapped in the proposed drivetrain of the new vehicle.
Second look at the dash. If I am not mistaken, that is very similar to the new dash design of the bB in Japan. So it may just be that we are getting a similar interior, but a different body and drive train.

Some of the suggestions here are puzzling:
1. Bigger engines, like the 2.4 L
2. Selectable 2WD / 4WD
3. more, more, more
How can the xB retain its market position if it becomes a Honda Element?! As soon as you're granted a 160HP engine and 4WD, you're talking about a car that starts at $18k and gets 20 mpg city, not to mention all the maintenance headaches due to the extra complication.
Keep the xB cheap, simple, and small - that's why I bought one!

but if selectable 2/4wd was an option, not a stanard feature, then the majority of people who wouldnt want that option wouldnt have that headache.... but yeah, if they send them out with 4wd, i will trade in, no questions asked...
