It's "boxer" as in EJ25. Not the Porsche.

You do realize that a car like this would be basically defecating on the Scion brand image they've been trying to build up for the past 4 years, right?

It probably won't be as safe as other Scion's, if you're just looking for a tC with 200lbs removed... and it probably won't be as cheap as other Scion's, if you're looking for a 6sp 200hp engine.
So call it a Toyota here in the states. Or make it Scion's "Halo Car", something to improve the brand image and sell more xDs to 16yo 1st time drivers.

The problem is that Scion was created to draw new customers into the Toyota family, but they haven't done ANYTHING to keep us there. There's no sporty Toyota, no entry-level Lexus, nothing between them and entry / kinda sporty Scion. So great, Toyota, you captured a 1st time Toyota buyer. Unfortunately, now where am I supposed to go? Either expand Scion upwards or start building better Toyotas. Otherwise I'll just be another person who started with Scion and then went on to other car manufacturers...

it's not going to be marketed as a scion in the united states, or anywhere else for that matter. these guys got teir info wrong.

it'll be marketed as a Toyota in only japan, and a SUBARU everywhere else. I'll add a few links to back up my claim

All of those are almost 1/2 year old. Try again with a NEW source.

I'll see you your unsubstantiated claims and raise you newer, but still unsubstantiated rumors:

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/11/11/r...loped-rwd-cou/

http://www.leftlanenews.com/toyotasu...-scion-tc.html

http://www.wheels24.co.za/Content/Ne...RWD_for_Toyota

Woohoo, I readz it on the internets so it must be true!!!
(edit - I also noticed that both AB and Edmunds *both* reference the same story in InsideLine, and the Camaro forum post doesn't say anything about branding outside of the UK.)

In all seriousness, anybody who knows the truth isn't talking, and anybody talking doesn't know the truth. We'll just have to wait and see. All we know is that:

1) Toyota and Subaru are teaming up to make an entry-level, RWD coupe and
2) A product like that would fit very well in the Scion brand here in the US.

There are all sorts of reasons why that's not going to happen, including exclusivity agreements between Toyota and Subaru, pricing not being in Scion's traditional range (neither was the tC when it came out), cost, falling dollar vs the Yen, etc.

Alot of theses rumors are usually true, I don't see any reason why they won't sell it as the new tC. They would only be giving alot of scion owners what they've been asking for. They need to stay in the game and this is their best way to do it. If they don't they are going to lose out to hyundai and nissan with their rwd coupes. All we can do is wait and see.
