Default 2007 Base vs Specs??????

Hey guys!!!!
I just subscribed to this page and i have some question about the tC... I hope y'all can help...

Ok!! I planning to buy a 2007 Scion tC. I read that there are two different kind of tC's.. the Base and the Specs. I read that the Base one comes with sunroof (and of course the moonroof) while the Specs also has a sunroof but it won't slide open...?? is it true????...
I was also reading the the 2005 and 2006 had a problem with the sunroof sliding. this is the reason i want to get an 07. I have read so much about this cars but people out there get confused about this topics, that's why i decided to ask actual tC owners...
I hope some one can help me... I really want a Super White tC...with Sunroof...

Any other differences between specs and base 2007?

Thanks, have a good one

The 2008's have the projectors but come with ugly tail lights so its a win/lose either way. You don't want to get a spec tC. They are the redheaded step child of the bunch. Mechanically, they are the same but all the nice things (seats, sunroof, etc) are crap.

The spec model is a no frills version of the base model. This means no audio controls on the steering wheel, 16" steel wheels w/hubcaps and a fixed one piece glass roof among other things.

The 05-06 sunroof issues were with the visor glass shattering. There is a free dealer fix for it.

IMO go for the base over the spec.

in general terms, unless you plan to drop another $10K+ on the car on just modifications..
don't get a spec.

geez, all these people hating on a spec tc?
well lemme chime in, i own a spec, 2008 i had a choice between the two
if you are planning on modding the car at all for performance, getting aftermarket wheels and stero or whatever, i would go with a spec because you just end up taking it off in the end.

thus, why i went with my baby!

yup i bought a 08 spec simply because it was cheaper and i couldnt stand the 08 base tails or headlights...i dont like shiney silver chrome crap.
day i bought i i got new rims and later installed the sunroof my self. ill admit i like the sunroof but i miss my fixed glass roof.
sunroofs make to much noise and in texas most of the time it is to hot to run around with it open lol.
just depends what you like just make sure they dont try and rip u off..for some reason used car dealers dont know the difference between base and spec and for some reason they think its a higher trim or something. ive seen dealers advertise specs for more than there worth and ive also seen base models listed as specs when they r not..

I don't care how much more money I'll eventually sink into my car, I love my sunroof OPEN.

I guess I have to chime in AGAIN to a spec debate... sigh. What are you guys? ****?

If you are not going to keep your car stock, love modding, and don't care for cruise control (I never use the damn thing), or extra weight and mechanical functions of the open sunroof (I never use the damn thing), and going to replace your wheels with aftermarket, and etc etc (steering wheel etc, seats etc). Then the pure price (15k, which is what i paid otd) would be worth it for someone like me rather than the (18k otd)

This is purely personal opinions, you BUY what you WANT or NEED. There is NO RIGHT or WRONG! Heck I don't like the Scion tC 6.0 but I'm not gonna tell someone not to buy it if that's what they want. It's STOCK OEM BUYERS OPTION for crying out loud.

I seriously sometimes wonder why people are so against the spec. I actually waited for mine to be shipped down to me, wasn't in a hurry cause that is what I really wanted. So to the OP, I'm not gonna tell you what to buy (since it's an oem vs oem car) but I will tell you the difference.

Spec has blacked out housing headlights (which I love), blacked out surround grille (I replaced it with VRD... would of done it either way), steelies with hubcaps (replaced them with Rays Gram Lights... sorry I don't care for the stock 17" alloy wheels much), No cruise control (again never used the damn thing), No mechanical open sunroof (again never would used the damn thing), No audio controls on steering wheel (I upgraded my whole sound system...), different seat material/cover, and I think that's it. Maybe some other little things, but I think I covered it all. 2007 is a great choice (pre taillight design change)

Sorry for the rants, and internet yelling. I just wanted to offer my opinion to balance out the others in this thread. I'm not gonna tell you what to get, But I hope INFORMING YOU about the differences is enough for you to make your own decision. Since you said you want a super white tC here is a photo of mine just for reference.

Now since you said you want a functional opening sunroof, I'd "suggest" (I'm not telling you) you should get the base model, since you will probably be more happier with that one rather than the spec. Good luck with your decision and have fun!

what they took off was worth more than the price drop, fyi.

also, weight of the spec's roof is almost negligible for difference.. they're still both glass.

on the upside, your wheels look nice.

I do realize that they are worth more than the price drop.

But some people just don't have much use for them. At least I don't, and if I had them it's not like I would have touched them anyways. But that's the thing, this just proves there is a market for it. Sure it's a small niche market, but that's why it was a limited run.

I'm not really here to argue, so I hope you don't take it the wrong way, that is actually the very last thing I'd ever want. Every time I post I always try my best to offer some valid opinions, and sometimes two sides to a story. Although I may have become heated a bit in the beginning, I usually try not to.
I just wanted to state the differences, and why someone would want to go either way.

Also the absolute MAIN reason I'm posting this is to address those that think there is NO point to having an OPTION to buy a Spec.
Options are always nice to have. I stand here for freedom of choice. lol this is turning too political.
But seriously, it's kinda turning into a communist debate. It's up to the INDIVIDUAL to decide what is worth it or not. All we should do is offer information and suggestions, but try to refrain from aggressive demanding orders. I see this kind of problem All over the forums, but I usually don't like to intervene. It's sad when I see people get puppet-ed around on a string doing what the master says, rather than discussing the needs and wants of the individual and eventually letting said individual make up their own mind.
I.E. Aesthetics, and power enhancements, etc.

And the Base should be Recommended to OP (as I put in bold AND large font in my previous post) NOT because the Spec is TRASH/POINTLESS (as some are making it out to be), but because he stated he wanted a good working sunroof. If not for that both would be good viable options depending on if he had other needs or wants.

I don't know why I'm getting so passionate, I guess it was just building up inside me over the years reading all the random threads about people asking other people to tell them what they should/need to do... rather than think for themselves.
And cuajo this is in no way addressed to you, because I read clearly that you just wanted to know what the differences are between the two, So in no way was I directing that last statement to you.

And I hope if anyone reads my post, that they read it in all of it's entirety. It's giving information why one would consider a spec, or why someone else would consider a base, but never demanding anyone to pick one over the other just because I demand it so.

Resale value can hurt a little with a spec. Same motor but with no cruise and no sunroof. Head lights and tails are too easy to swap (same goes with wheels). I got an RS3 because all the tedious work and nice interior was mostly done. Then I went overboard

x2 the sticker price differs by about $ 2K which is not worth it for most.

Some other details: 08 includes iPod connectivity, sidecurtain airbags and 08 model radio...no subwoofer, no alarm, no spark plug/coil cover, 16x6.5 steelies, no grill chrome, no headlight chrome, no clothe lined glovebox, single tier center console, no passenger doorlock
