Default Back on SL after a longgg time. Grill advice?

So back when I bought my sw tc in 07, the po who had the car for a few months threw on a grill kit (seems like eBay), but it's a silver mesh. Realllyyy was never feelin the silver on a sw, so I always planned on replacing it but never bothered. So the other day I was incredibly bored n decided to pull em off, primer n paint em black. Now comes the decision about reinstalling... The po mounted these grills with the stock black grills still behind them so he could drill/mount right onto those instead of drilling the bumper. Looks kinda dumb to me, since it's two dif honeycombs on top of eachother. So do I reinstall them how he had them anyway? Or get rid of everything behind these ones? Reason I am unsure is bc these grills don't curve (the edges of grill Aren't set further back than the main mesh) - not sure if u can catch my drift on that one or not, but basically I don't want them to be set too far back. Also I cannotttt decide what to do about the lower outer vents... Put the mesh grills back on, leave them off with the black plastic backing still on, or remove that n leave em open fully? Yeah, I know, I'm INCREDIBLY indecisive haha. What do you guys suggest??

sounds like you have the figure engineering grills. they are supposed to be installed without the stock grill behind it. they just install with zip ties and the holes you drill (1/8 drill bit btw), so you shouldn't worry about having them installed too far back because you can install them however the ____ you want.

Thanks bro that's what I was thinking. It seemed so dumb to keep the stock grill behind it, the mesh just doesn't look right. But it doesn't surprise me, considering the moron apparently even put the stock scion emblem back on over the new grill (there was adhesive still on the grill in the shape o the logo lol) now need to decide about the lower outer vents, I actually can't remember seeing one with black grills in them n can't find a pic of it. Open or black mesh? Hmmm... Decisions decisions.

Thanks. I do have them already and have painted them black as well, just not sure which would look better, mesh or open. I guess I'll prob put them on n if I don't like it just take it back off. I think it would look good. Just haven't seen it.

took of my engine cover and put on a flat black spark plug cover plate made by someone on the forums
got a dc sports strut bar
nst radiator diversion panel
and the FIG 4 peice grill in flat black
painted mirror signals with niteshades

what i plan to do still:
intake (haven't really decided which yet)
either the TRD exhuast or tanabe concept g
coil overs
either tenzo tracer v1 18x7.5 flat black or axis super hiro 18x8.5 flat black
5000k or 6000k HID's

Damn dude, sounds nice. I originally dumped a good amount into it n then just fell behind, now I'm gettin back on though. (was planning to sell the car but just recently changed my mind)
So far all I've got is the following:
Avic-d3 h/u with iPod integration and Sirius integration
3 10" mtx subs
2way fm alarm/remote start
The mesh grills obv lol
(oem lipkit, pedestal spoiler, blue accent kit)
Black housing hids w angel eyes and LEDs across the eyebrow (took them out recently though)
Injen CAI (can be converted to ram air whenever u want but I leave it at the cai setup)
--btw I personally would recommend that intake, sounds great, good response, and great fitment. That's just me though. I'm totally torn on the future performance mods, way to much contradictory info on here for me to make up my mind.
And that's pretttty much all I can remember.
I planned out a LOTTTT for it though over the past week so it's gonna be pretty much all redone in and out.
