Default First Time Modding :]

Hey, i've been lurking through these forums a lot. I've recently gotten into modding my car and have been saving up money for coilovers, body kits, and the works to start with. Today I finally decided to sign up in the forums (yay!)

Just asking for general opinions on what should I get first and reccomendations with the opinions.

To start off, i'm absolutely in love with this front bumper:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/05-10...Q5fAccessories

But not with the sideskirts/rear bumper. I actually just want the OEM sideskirts/rear bumper that comes with the original tCs.

Any reccomendations on what would look good with the Wings aero front bumper?

Thanks :]

Steph~

usually the fitments on those bodykits are horrible(you have to do ALOT of work to make it fit right), you should look into lip kits as they are more subtle, but it is your decision.

Also welcome to the boards!

What should yu get 1st? TURBO!! Boost IT .lol j/k ...I would start with tint, spring or coils, (Tien h techs or s techs ,Tien Basic coils ) and Hids... I'm not a huge fan of that front bumper... at least not in that color. Personally I would go with a nice lip kit.. 5 Axis maybe? Dats just my opinion

Depends on how much $$$ you're willing to spend, and how heavily you want to mod the car, and in what areas. (Suspension, looks, performance)

My sister's tC looks very clean and all she has done is custom embroidered leather/heated seats, shift ****, pedal covers, oem lip kit, oem fogs, trd springs, s2k antenna and a few other dealership goodies. If your just looking for a nice clean subtle look like that, then I would just go with some oem parts from the dealer. They look nice and fit great. Check out trdsparks.com for the best prices.

its your tc, if you like that front bumper, then get it, but not with stock sides and rear.

like its been said, bodykits like those will usually need some body work (bondo, fiberglass, etc) to fit perfectly, when people put them on with no work, the gaps between bumper.hood.fenders are usually horrible!

coils are a great start, i wish i had skipped the spring stage and gone straight to coils!

I had a body kit made by them.....Dont do it. The worst fitment nightmare in my life... you get what you pay for if you want quality your gunna need to shell some doh$$ for it. I would advise coils, some nice shoes, engine upgrades, make it fancy at the end not the beginning

I see you are in Riverside, all i have to say is if you do tint your windows be careful with the popos. They dont like our type of cars in that neck of the woods lol. But deff a drop, for now. Wheels next and that lip you want.

I'm already saving up for coilovers. I'm skipping the spring stage and jumping right to coils. Might get megans because we know someone who can give them for a discount (about $100 off) Would like some Teins or the Stance ones but i don't have that kind of money. Lol

Thanks for the warning for the bumpers. I just really like that style. I might consider getting just the lip kits. As for the shoes, I already picked them out but that might change too. I'm just trying to find what suits my tastes.

Thanks for all the replies, I feel very welcomed (and not so scared) to get into modding anymore

I WISH i could get turbo LOL. But for now, slow and low is what I want. I like the look of lowered tC's.

EDIT:

I am planning to tint my windows but that might be the last part of what I have to do. I just want the coilovers, shoes, body kit first. Thanks for the warning tho >.< Popos here ARE horrible lol

Welcome. A few words of advice...

Do it right the first time.
You get what you pay for (most of the time).

This site is a great source of knowledge. You can read reviews/look at pics of just about any part imaginable.

Good luck, happy modding!

For looks:

Tint - Just stay within legal limits if the cops 'round your parts get uppity easily. The tint shop will know what the legal limit is and make recommendations based on it. I went with 3% for the rear seats and hatch and 50% for the driver and passenger windows, which is illegal in CA, but the cops where I live haven't given anyone problems with just 50% as far as I've heard/seen.

Exhaust - Look on Youtube for what sounds good to you. You will be looking into an Axle-back since you live in CA. Messing with the midpipe and catalytic converters will getcha popped by the police. I went with the HKS Hi-Power Axle-back and I love the sound of it. Just be sure when you look on Youtube they didn't mod their tC with headers, cold air intake or a midpipe because that can have an effect on the overall sound. Make sure its under the decibel level legal in CA, I think its like 97 or 98 decibels, which is plenty loud enough to sound good and not be an annoyance.

Lowering springs, coilovers, bags - I really don't know much in this category but with some research on the forums and online in general you can find out what will work best for you. Stay around a 1.5inch drop to stay in the performance zone, otherwise you will begin to trade looks for handling, or so I've read. You don't have to be slammed to look cool so just find what appeals to you the most and go with that. Could be the stock 4x4 look, semiflush, hellaflush, slammed, etc. Do what makes you happy.

LED/Neon Underbody, wheel well, interior, etc - If this is your thing they're relatively cheap to buy and with some effort you can install them yourself. They are illegal to have turned on while driving and you'll get pulled over faster than anything else a cop would notice so drive smart. LEDGLOW.com is where I got mine.

Body/lipkit/sideskirts/etc - Tons of choices here as well as paint color or carbon fiber. Do an image search of the kind you're interested in on a tC and decide from there.

Spoiler/wing - As stated above, tons of choices here. Beware of anything that will obstruct your rear view.

Rims - Tons of choices. Personal preference.

Grill - A couple different choices here, as well as an option of making your own. I went with the GrilleCraft MX series upper and lower grille in black.

Audio - Countless variations on what you can do here.

Just have fun with it and take pride in whatcha do.

On a final note - take heed in doing performance mods in CA because of how strict the CARB laws are. Make sure anything you get is 50 State Legal or CARB Legal if you wanna stay in spec.

If its your 1st time modding you have to do your research 1st and see whats best for your taste. Everyone has there own style. Some people are into looks, others into performance, and some a little bit of both. Good luck Modding!
